A Question about Points in Holding

Unfortunately, I have 15 points in holding (since last July) because we had to cancel one night of our stay at the last minute. We are not planning to return until June 2016, and we have a June Use Year. If I book a separate reservation for the first night of my upcoming trip using my 2016 points, can I replace the 2016 points with holding points at the 60-31 day mark if a room is available? Or do I have to cancel the original reservation (before the 30 day mark) to make sure those points don't go into holding, and make a new reservation using the holding points. I realize that I'll probably lose the points, but I'd like to try to save them if I can.

I think the problem will be that the holding points will not be able to be used past May 31. Otherwise I think your logic works as far as re booking a night once inside the 60 day mark. Again, if the holding points are from june 2015, then I think they expire on May 31, 2016. I don't think you can bank them.

Darn... you are right. It didn't occur to me that my June points expire at the end of May. They cannot be banked, so I'll probably lose them.

How many points? I had 25 points in holding last year, a friend had a long weekend trip to WDW, I booked 1 night at AKV for her, 19 points. Lost the other 6.

I have 15 points in holding. Last summer I booked a room for my parents, hoping they could join us for one night to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Unfortunately, my mom was too ill to make the trip and I had to cancel within the 30 day window. I guess I could try to rent the points, but I've never done that before.

It's going to be difficult to rent 15 points with holding restrictions. That's not even a night at some resorts.

Maybe transfer them or reserve a studio for 1-2 nights to rent. It might require putting a few points with the 15. I'd suggest OKW, SSR, AKV standard or value or BWV value. Should be able to get enough to pay the dues as a minimum.

Thank you for the advice. It would be enough points for a weekend night at a few of the resorts, so maybe the points would be useful to someone who lives locally or looking to add an extra night. I've never made a transfer or rented before, so I'll have to do some homework!

Personally I'd likely try to reserve a value at AKV or standard at BLT or BWV for a weekend adding the few additional points. One should be able to get around $12 a point doing so.
