A question about character interactions--especially A&E

Yesterday we were lucky and fast enough to snag A&E fast passes, even though we were at the gates an hour before opening the lines were already crowded so we had been worried! I was beyond impressed with A&E! I don't know exactly what I expected but they definitely exceeded my expectations. They spent time getting down on my 2 yr old DD's level and talking her. They hugged her and held her hands. The best part of all, which made Anna the favorite and the one DD asked about all day long, was Anna tickling DD to get her to smile for photos.

But unfortunately the photopass photos of this magical moment were awful! So much so the CM gasped when I went by later to claim my photopass later on and add the A&E photos to it. I think I'll write an FYI thread next if my kids stay napping long enough. But long story short the CM to her credit without me asking for anything asked me to wait while she made calls and arranged for us to go back and get the photos re-taken.

But round two A&E were very formal...and blah. No time with interactions and no magic...and no happy DD and therefore no magic photos.

DH is convinced that there was no swap of A&E and that they were the same ones at 1:00 P.M. As they were at 9:00 A.M. I wasn't sure because I only had eyes for my DD the first time.

Are there multiple A&E cast members?

Did we just get lucky the first time? Was the second encounter more typical?

Later on after waiting in line at Pixie Hollow DD met Tinkerbell and gave her the best hug...and wouldn't let go! Tinkerbell truly seemed touched by DD and told me not to pry DD away when I was worried we were overstaying our turn. She also asked DD to go home with her. Again absolute magic. Tinkerbell asked DD to come back again soon and kept waving and blowing us kisses instead of moving on to the next child in line. My DH thinks I'm naive and that Tink was just acting touched but I thought it was so genuine and not at all like the perfunctory interaction with the red fairy before we met Tink. Is Tink always like that? We've never met her before. Was that a normal or extra special interaction?

Curious about what is the normal level of attention the characters should be expected to put in. DD keeps talking about Anna so I'm considering putting in the time and effort to see them again this trip, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. If the first magical meeting can be expect again I will definitely do it again, but not if the formal blah meeting is typical. Ditto whether or not I should spend another hour in line to see Tink. Oh, and it guess I should ask is it likely to be the same Tink again? Thanks!

I don't think there is any one answer to this type of question. Different characters will interact differently, so it depends entirely on who you see. As you noted, different CMs may be there throughout the day, so you'll never know which one you'll get.

I just got back from a trip where my group meet A&E and it was a great experience. Like the one your first described, where the characters took their time to talk with and interact with the kids. Tinkerbell was friendly, but she wasn't overly attentive (but it might also been because the little one was being shy). The other face characters were hit-or-miss, so I don't think you can count on always having a "magical" experience, nor can you say that the perfunctory greeting is the norm.

We do a lot of character meets with my 2.5 yo niece and we get the whole range of interactions. Sometimes it just depends on the CM and their mood that day but a lot of it is also you and your DD interaction. They are more likely to spend more time and be more excited if the kid has a cute outfit, especially if it's related to their movie, and also if the kid is excited to seem them. If they squeal and run up to the character they'll probably end up with a great interaction vs being dragged up and not saying a word.

Even still, it comes down to the CM, one of our greatest interactions was when my niece was 18 months...she walked up to Cruella, who wrapped her in her coat and just chatted with her. My niece just stared, not a word, but it was still such a special interaction due to a great CM who could have just posed for a pic and moved on to the next guest

Like others have said I to think interaction will vary. We have had some over the top amazing ones (Merida, Jesse, Cruella, Handy Manny, Peter Pan and Ariel come to mind)....and some ok ones. But I think in the kids excitement they didn't seem to notice.

We have also had varied interactions as well. The majority of the time they are great, but we have had 1 or 2 that weren't all that we had hoped. It all depends on the CM.

It will be varied for sure. I had several friends who were face characters and they truly loved their job, but they also had hard days since they are human. One of the best interactions I ever had (apart from visiting my friends, which was always a hoot) was with Ariel when we took our niece. Our niece asked a lot of questions and they spent a lot of time together. Then Eric walked out and added even more magic. I think what made it so great was that she asked questions - "do you miss your fins? Where is Flounder? How fast can you swim?" I think the characters like to flex their story telling muscles. :)

I had several friends who were face characters and they truly loved their job,

I ran across some excellent face characters: Anastasia and Drucella. These two have always been best. But I caught them at the Christmas Parade and decided to see if they'd interact.... and I was not disappointed. This video holds the evidence of characters living up to their title.
