So, I am going to be a Swan bride, but still want to have an EPCOT dessert party. I got an email back from Disney today with the minimums, and they are about half that of what a wedding dessert party is. My question is... Are the prices for the "menus" cheaper too? I saw that one dessert party was about 20-35pp. That was for a wedding dessert party. Can they make it so we are at about 15pp? Also, can you have a "wedding cake" brought in for your dessert party? I will be feeding my guests earlier in the day, and just thought this would be fun, and that is why I don't want to spend a lot per person.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that all dessert party locations have a $23/pp minimum.

Sarah sweetie - I would be careful about bringing up the whole wedding thing, and also about asking about the wedding cake being served at the DP. If Disney are aware that the DP is attached to a wedding, they have been known to refer the bride on to DFTW, and then up go your minimums!!!

Quick question: if you want a DP, do you have to pay park admission on top of the $23/pp minimum?

OP- I'm sorry I don't have any answers! I'm a Swan bride as well and would love to have a DP!

You either have to have park admission or pay a $12.95/pp viewing fee.

Yeah, that is what I heard. I wasn't really going to bring up it being a wedding event, but more of a family gathering. I just didn't know if you can have a mad hatter type cake brought in, since that is what we liked anyway.

There are just so many rules and restrictions, but I really love the idea of the EPCOT dessert party. I guess, I will get it figured out as I move along, just thought I would ask around to see if anyone knew.

Thanks everyone!

The cake would have to be made by Disney, whose Mad Hatter prices start at $450 for a 2-tier. There will also be a $75 handling charge because it will have to be made by a resort bakery—Epcot's can't do something that elaborate. You might be able to get the Yacht & Beach Club's bakery to make the cake and not charge you the handling fee.

Complete info on ordering special-occasion cakes at WDW can be found HERE. :thumbsup2

Could you please tell me who you contacted about having the Dessert Party? I am going to be a Disney Shades of Green bride, and I would love to have a Epcot Dessert Party. I have called numerous numbers, just be routed to another person. I'm getting frustrated. Help :headache:

Complete instructions on planning a Disney dessert party w/o going through DFTW can be found HERE.

So, we are having our rehearsal dinner at the Yak & Yeti and I wanted to surprise my DF with a Superman cake (he LOVES all things Superman). However, they do not do custom cakes like this. They did say, however, we can bring in our own cake anytime during that day and they will throw it in the cooler for us.

Do you call the same cake ordering hotline to get a custom cake for pick-up? Anybody have any suggestions where to order a cake from?

Thanks so much! I just followed your notes, and called the Epcot catering number. I was told that in order to book a party that at 50% of the guests have to be staying on Disney Property. . . :sad2: They forwarded on my info, and said a planner would contact me. Hopefully as the wedding gets closer, more people will decide to stay on property. I have several guests that own timeshares, that were planning on staying off property.

Do you know sweetie, I have heard of other non-DFTW brides who have been told this, and I am not sure if it is in fact true. Maybe Carrie can clarify whether this is in fact a pre-condition for booking an 'Illuminations' DP, or another mis-understanding on the part of the CMs!!
Just as a matter of interest, did you mention that you were booking it for a wedding celebration?

If It's Tasty Too or another local baker will agree to deliver to Y&Y for you, that would be the easiest. Otherwise, you can order custom cakes to pick up from BoardWalk Bakery OR you might think about having a Disney bakery deliver one to your resort. Complete info on options for each location is HERE.

Yeah, don't let that stand in the way of your planning. We have never been asked for an accounting of where all our guests are staying, and even if they do mention it, you can just tell them you'll let them know as the event gets closer and people start to finalize their plans. I think mostly they want to know that YOU will be staying on property.

Are you not allowed to wear a wedding dress unless your dessert party was planned through DFTW? And if you wanted to have a dessert party planned through DFTW you would then have to hit the minimums of the Escape or Wishes wedding?

Sorry to hijack your thread, OP. We're in the very beginning stages of planning an Orlando wedding and the wedding itself will probably be off-site. The dinner will be at a private room somewhere at a Disney resort or Swan/Dolphin. I was hoping for an Epcot dessert party, but if I can't wear my wedding dress or have to spend $10,000 in order to do so, I may find other things to do that evening.

Thanks for any help and sorry again for the hijack! I was reading through the thread and these questions just struck me.

Correct. Only those who plan their dessert parties through DFTW may wear wedding attire inside the park. And if you plan through DFTW and add a private event to an Escape Collection ceremony, you must hit a $7,500 minimum (the package counts toward it). Wishes events now start at $12,000. :sad2:
