Day 4 - November 9
We slept in this morning...okay, they slept in this morning. I was up around 7 a.m. The girls had been complaining all week about getting up early, so we let them sleep in while DH, DSis, DD5 and I went down to the Food Court for breakfast. Then we decided to rent a surrey bike and take a nice, relaxing ride around the resort. Okaaayyy. I asked the CM if we were allowed to ride over to the French Quarter. She informed me that you have to stick to the path they have mapped out for you which is 3 trips around. What a bummer. Only 3 trips...I proudly tell DSis, DH and the CM that we might be renting this thing for an hour instead of just a half hour. Yeah. So off we go. I think the CM forgot to give us our towels and bottled water to prepare us for our morning workout that we were about to encounter. Why was the CM smiling so much as we left...shes so nice...I mention to DH. Everything was going along fine...until we hit the first hill. You know, that really, really steep incline leading up to the bridge. Yeah, its steep. Three of us peddling along, my sister chiming I think I can, I think I can, DH begging a man walking next to us to give us a push as he almost knocks him over (I cant believe he drives a race car), me yelling to DSis Feel it burn, no pain, no gain and then theres DD5 proudly sitting in the basket in front ringing her bell & waving at everyone...oblivious to the fact that all three of us were about to pass out from exhaustion and it was only our first trip around. If you happened to see 3 lunatics and a cute little girl riding a surrey bike at POR, yup, that was us. We made it around 2 times & decided that it was just too easy (cough, cough) for us, so we took the bike back. Yup, a whole 15 minute ride. Now I know why the CM was smiling so much when I informed her wed be riding for an hour. She kindly tells us that shell only charge us for 15 minutes instead of the full half hour...just had to rub it in, didnt ya? We laughed so hard that morning...we had a great time. The only thing that wouldve made it any better was if the girls wouldve been along to share in our experience. You all know how embarrassed teenagers get when their parents act stupid. It wouldve been priceless to make them share that.
DSis and I took a walk around the resort while DH and DD5 went to the arcade. We walked over by the mansions. The whole resort area is absolutely beautiful. Its very quiet and there is so much to do and see. The landscaping is gorgeous. The mansions are very beautiful...I wouldve like to have looked inside one of them, but wasnt able to.
We went back to the room to get the girls. Our plans were to go to the Polynesian and rent the SeaRaycers. As we were eating lunch at the Food Court, it started to rain. It also became very windy so we knew we couldnt rent the boats. I was dying to see the Animal Kingdom Lodge, so we decided to go resort hopping. AKL first stop. I had seen pictures of this place, but pictures do not do it any justice. It is absolutely incredible! We walked through the lobby and went outside, where we saw some zebras and giraffes...took some pictures. We went back inside to the gift shop where I think we spent well over an hour. I couldve maxed out my charge card there. There were so many beautiful souvenirs. I started collecting Disney snow globes for DD5 last year, so I bought her one there that said AKL on the bottom (another Christmas present). DD13 and DDF bought some bracelets. We went back into the lobby to watch the CMs singing and dancing. DH and I decided that when we go back to Disney we will definitely be staying at the AKL, even if it is only for a few nights. Incredible! Since we had spent so much time there, we only had time to go to one more resort so we drove over to the Wilderness Lodge. Its a nice resort, but after seeing the AKL I was still hooked on that one. We walked around the lobby. DD13 wanted to eat at the Whispering Canyon Cafe but I read too many reviews about that restaurant. Were celebrating my birthday and DDFs birthday, remember? I KNOW my family, all too well. I know how much they get a kick out of embarrassing other people, especially me. There was no way they were getting me in there. We walked around outside and took some beautiful pictures of the girls.
We went back to our room & got ready to go back to Downtown Disney. We hadnt eaten dinner, but all the lines were so long so we ended up eating at McDs. We did alot of shopping and I bought alot of Christmas gifts. I love the fact that you can have all your stuff sent back to the gift shop in your resort. Another weird, sort of magical thing happened while we were shopping. DSis and I were in the Christmas shop looking for ornaments for DD5s teachers. DSis just happened to look over at a display stand and there was a pin that was out of place. Someone mustve wanted it, then changed their minds and just laid it there...on another display stand. It had Cinderella on it with DD5s name. How could I not get it? What were the odds? I think DH was getting really bored, so we went back to the room and we thought wed try to get in the hot tub. We had tried almost every night & it was always occupied with other people waiting to get in. We got down to the pool and of course, the hot tub was occupied with another family sitting there waiting so we went in the pool for awhile. We saw the first family leave and the other family get in, so after a few minutes we decided to go over and wait for our turn. Most of the family got out except for who Im assuming was the father...and another young guy. So, my family got tired of waiting & decided to get in. They kept begging me to come in, but I only stayed in for about 3 minutes. I did not feel comfortable being in there with strangers, so DD5 and I went back in the pool for a few minutes, then off to bed to get some sleep for MGM tomorrow.
