A possibly "duh" question about the search function

So today I saw a post by someone who's trip report I remember as being hilarious (BobNC, btw). So I hit his username and searched for more posts by Bob, and it came up posts 1-500, but no more. (Alas, the trip report must be before the last 500 posts.)

So then I searched myself and it also came up only the last 500 posts. I know in the past when I've looked for something I posted, it came up with all my posts, not just the recent 500.

Obviously this changed and I missed it. So does this mean I can't reread Bob's trip report (or anything anyone posted more than 500 posts ago)?

Did you try to search by public profile, and then by threads started by? I used to be able to find old stuff that way, as long as the user started the thread (as I would figure a trip report would be)
