DH (37) - likes Disney, loves Star Wars
Me (42) - loves Disney, likes Star Wars Weekends
JJ Penguin - loves deserts, disney, deserts and did I mention deserts?

At last, it's finally here, our long awaited WDW trip. I'd really been looking forward to this one as I'd been having a severe case of "is this it?" Work was definitely no fun any more and we'd also just been told that the office would be moving to Amsterdam so that means I will have to start looking for a new job later this year as I don't want to swap a 10 minute bike ride for an hour commute!

This trip was planned around the dates for Star Wars Weekends, we'd been in 2004 and it was really fun, unfortunately I managed to delete all the photo's I'd made... good excuse to go again. This time DH really wanted to go for the first weekend as he'd heard that there would be lots of stormtroopers, and he hoped that they would take over the park or something like that. So I'd guessed the dates & booked the Boardwalk (DVC) so we can walk to MGM. Luckily these were the right dates. Usually we go in March or November so this will be hotter then we're used to, also it will be Memorial day on the 2nd weekend so I'm expecting pretty crowded parks.

I bought our tickets online. I decided to get Annual Passports as with the DVC discount they would be only slightly more expensive than a pass with no expiry & hopping and I am counting on using them for another trip - maybe solo later in the year, I did that 2 years ago and enjoyed it.

I also booked the dining plan. I'm not sure how this will work out. I look forward to the fact that everything is paid for, including tax & tip as I always end up forgetting that you have to add at least 20% to the prices you see on the menu. Also, even though we are on holiday and are treating ourselves, I still tend to look at a menu and think $10.00 for a shrimp appetizer, no way! I'll have the salad for $ 6.00. This way I'll be able to order what I like and not have to worry. I've decided to go to some nicer restaurants and fill the rest out with the counter service. I still have to educate DH on how it works! I've just told him he can have a Mickey Bar everyday, that convinced him it was a good idea ;)

And finally I have done some souvenier shopping! I have bought some stuff in the sale from Disneyshopping.com including a new set of suitcases, so we can travel light and still have plenty of room for all our shopping.

So the suitcase had been packed for the last week, ADR's have been made - California Grill, Jiko's and either Liberty Tree Tavern or Kona Café on Sunday when my neice will be coming over from Tampa. I had also thought about booking the Segway tour in Epcot, but we only have 9 days and will be spending 1 at Universal, 1 shopping and 1 with my niece at Magic Kingdom I didn't want to plan too much. This is meant to be a trip where we can recharge our batteries, see what's new, relax and not be in the parks from morning till night....

im going to be interested in your experiance of the dining plan, i thought it was great and definatly gave more flexibility on ordering :)
great report :thumbsup2

Loved your pre-trip report, JJ. Could you answer a question for me? We were thinking of doing the DDP in September but thought we wouldn't be able to as I thought it was just for guests who booked a room and ticket package. We are annual passholders, so would not be booking tickets, only a room. Can you let me know how you booked it?

Thanks very much :thumbsup2

ArielJasmine, the DDP can be added to your room package, but it must be done before you arrive and for all nights of the stay. As we are DVC members I just called and ask them to add it. How did you book your room, if it was through Disney just call them. As long as you have a reservation number it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks so much for this, JJ, great news. We haven't booked the room yet as we are hoping to get annual passholder discount nearer the time, but we are intending to book through Disney, so it sounds like this should be fine.

Thanks again :thumbsup2

You won;t be able to combine an AP discount with the DDP I don't think I'm afraid :(

Aruna - great report! Off to the next ...

I had to LOL at your tactics for ensuring a second trip though ;)
unfortunately I managed to delete all the photo's I'd made... good excuse to go again
