A Peanut Butter Dilemma

PB was on sale BOGO free a few weeks ago. So I got a regular one for the kids and reduced fat PB for myself.

When I got it home I calculated the points. I discovered that I do not save any points by using RF PB. So that got me wondering about the difference between the two. Looking a the nutritional info, the RF PB has a LOT more carbs than regular PB. By looking at the ingredients it seems as though cprn syrup is added to the RF PB.

So I wonder, if I'm not getting lower points out of the deal, is RF worth it? I hate to simply substitute fat with wasted carbs. I had done Atkins before so I still have some adversion to unnecessary carbs.

What do you think? Is it better to reduce my fat intake even of it is the same amount of points? Or should I use regular and avoid the extra corn syrup?

I would think that you would be much better to get the naturally unsweetened p.butter. Yes, it would have some fats BUT the natural fats found in PB are the healthy kind of fats ---- and you know what the sugar is in the PB ------ not something that you probably want to have.

I agree with wovenwonder, the natural PB is better for you. You know how the oil sits on the top on natural PB? Well, that means your body can also separate the fat from the nutritious part of the stuff. Healthy fats are important because they help your body break down and digest other foods. And I think it tastes better!:D

I haven't tried natural peanut butter so I don't know if the points or taste differ much. In your situation I would chose the regular PB. As a WWer, I find myself using more 'regular' items because I don't like what has been added/substituted to make something low fat, fat free, etc. :)

You really should try regular all natural peanut butter. I prefer the kind with salt. It's just salt and peanuts. My dh took one taste and said it was the best peanut butter he ever had. If you look at the jars of peanut butter that are not all natural, you would be amazed at what is in there. The one that did it for me that made me vowe to never eat the regular kind anymore is when I read the label and it had hydrogenated oil in it. Why in the world do I want to eat something that has the kind of oil in it that clogs your arteries (plus tons of other chemicals).

When you open a jar of all natural, you just have to stir the oils. I try to stir all the way down to the bottom of the jar so the peanut butter at the bottom isn't dried out when the jar is almost empty. My favorite brand is 360 from Whole Foods.
