Someone on the community board suggested I post my question here, so here goes....

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of Satin Finish Hardwood Flooring Limited of Canada? (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary)

We are looking at this company for flooring in our new home and I just thought I would check to see if any of you knew anything about them.

Thanks for your help... and sorry this was not Disney related!

Thanks, Mike... yes I have checked out their website. I was hoping to find someone who had dealt with them, but that does not seem possible!

Thanks again, and I'll keep trying!

I asked my contractor who is doing some renovations in my house about it since he was protecting our floors with flattened cardboard boxes that said " Satin Finish ...... Canada" on them. He said that the flooring company that he deals with uses this product more than any product that they sell. I can't give you a personal recommendation but the flooring store "Speers Road Paint and Paper " (mostly a flooring store) has been around for a long time and is very reputable. Maybe you could call them. They are in Oakville, Ontario. I'll ask around and see if I can find anyone who has it in their house.

Thanks for your help, Damo! I really appreciate it.

It helps to know that Satin Finish appears to be a reputable company. :)

I sell flooring and I can tell you we never had any problems with the flooring. We stopped using them because of a problem with our rep and their accounting department but that would not be your worry. They have some beautiful products but remember the quality of the wood (prime grade vs. tavern grade) is what will make the difference not so much the company. If you have always used prime grade and switch to tavern (or something in between) you will be disappointed. The actual quality of the floor is more important (quality wise) than the manufactuer.

Limmer... tell me more!! Please!!! :)

This is our first experience with wood flooring - so what is the difference between tavern and prime grade? Does Satin Finish sell both?

I am a little concerned about liquids on the floor, as we are putting wood in the dining room, kitchen, foyer and hallway.

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!!!

Prime grade wood has less mineral staining and knots in the wood. Tavern grade is like seconds. It can be warped, have knots, be discoloured. All manufactuers sell tavern because as I said it is seconds. Usually a company (retailer) will buy a pallet and sell it really cheap. Be very worried about liquids on your wood floor. I never recommend to my customers to put wood in the foyer or in the kitchen. Wood and water Do Not MIx . The wood will start to discolour and swell with too much water. This does not mean a flood. It can happen over time. My parents have it at their front door and in the bevels it is all black. Just taking off your boots there in the winter and dripping can damage your wood, even with a carpet mat. They are not waterproof. My advice is to go ceramic in the foyer and the kitchen and wood in the rest. That being said I have wood throughtout my house (even in the bedrooms) and I love it. I would never have carpet. I think wood is beautiful even when it scratches and dents. Also keep in mind the darker your stain the more noticeable any scratches or dents will be (dust also). As long as you know what to expect by all means put the wood throughout. Just know what COULD happen. It doesn't always but you make the decision and decide (being fully informed) if you are willing to take the chance.
