Folks,
We just bought our 150 points at SSR in January and are looking forward to our first trip home on January 4, 2005. I downloaded "Vacation Magic" from the DVC site and started wondering something as I read the article about SSR. It mentions leaving my luggage at check-in as we go to explore the theming of SSR. What happens next? Do the DVC Sherpas deliver our luggage to our room? Does the DVC bellhop wait around until I tip him? How does this work? How about check-out? Do they come and pick up our luggage? So many questions.
I'm so used to hauling my own luggage through crappy parking lots, down hotel hallways and up elevators that I have no real concept of how this works.

When you get into your room you call bell service and they deliver it to your room while you are there. Then you can tip them. At check out they will store your luggage until you leave. They will come to your room while you are there and pick it up for you and put it into storage.

This is especially useful if you arrive early and your room is not ready or if you have a late flight on your departure day - check out of the room, store your luggage, go have fun then get your luggage at the end of the day

thanks

There are no sherpas in Saratoga NY. You will have to wait for "Expedition Everest" to see your first sherpa!!!!!!!

There are no crappy parking lots or dingy hallways either!!!! When you arrive at the resort, you pull up to the front door and a nice bellperson comes and gets your luggage. You go check-in. If your room is ready, the nice bellperson takes oyur luggage and you to the room. If your room is not ready, the nice bellperson stored your lugage, and you go skipping off to a lovely day at WDW. When you arrive back at your resort, weary but full of Disney Magic, the nice bellperson brings your luggage to your room.

Pretty much anytime the bellperson touches your luggage, you must tip.

I obviously tip oo much in Disney. I generally go with a bank envelope filled with 1's and 5's. I tip for curbside at the airport, the valet at arrival, the bellman at arrival, the bellman that brings the bags to the room, etc.

Yesterday my DD8 said "Mom, I need a dollar for snack, can I take it out of the tip envelope?" After laughing, I explained I only carry a tip envelope on vacation not year round.

Neil, you are in for a real treat with DVC!

Yes, you should tip the people you come in contact with when you pull up to the registration area. I tend to be like InstImpres and on the high side of tipping. But in the scheme of things, tips are a pretty small part of our vacation costs.

And they will take very good care of your luggage. So forget about those nightmare parking lots of the past and enjoy the pampering of first class resort service!:)

Or you can choose to shlep it yourself anyway! That is what we do. We always have a car, and at OKW, it is just too easy to park outside your room and get your bags up there without waiting for them. Saves on tip money too!:p

I agree with Diane. If you will have your own car or even a rental, I would just leave them in your car until your room is ready. SSR is to have parking at each building and all buildings will have elevators. I would save the tip money and buy pins.
