This is the craziest thing I have ever heard, but I thought I would share with all of you. A friend of ours just returned from Disney and bought into a 'new' Disney Vacation Club. He claims it's a special they are running for the 20-year anniversary of DVC. Here's what he said:

- he bought 160 points but he is guaranteed that the price to buy additional points WILL NOT increase for the next 10 years should he need to purchase additional points
- his dues are $600 per year and will remain at that price for the next 10 years even if he buys additional points within that time
- he bought the last week of Nov and first week of Dec but doesn't have to stay during that time, if he changes weeks he may only book 3 months out
- expires in 54 years

LOL, this is hysterical. Maybe he was hallucinating...I have no idea. We have been members for 6 years and know DVC very well, but when he came up with this story at the 4th of July party yesterday it was pretty funny! He's the type of person that no matter what he's always right! I finally told him I think he was scammed! WOW

M*M :)

He might very well have purchased something but it certainly wasn't DVC.

I would love to know where he got his information.

Me, too.

How did he take it when you gave him the real facts?

For one thing, DVC hasn't been around for 20 years. It just celebrated its 10th anniversary a couple of years ago.

How can you buy two weeks in DVC? Points, yes, specific weeks, no.

So what was he drinking at that party? Must have been good! :rotfl2:

Yikes! How much money did he pay for whatever this is that he bought? Did he say who the check was payable to? Let us know if you find out anymore details. I am curious now.

This has just enough reference to "real" information that it makes me think that your friend did a DVC tour and took no notes, but is remembering things the way he wants to.

This might have been the part where they told him that the number of points to stay at a DVC resort will not increase overall???

He might have been told that dues haven't gone up much historically??

Are you sure he went to WDW??? :confused3

- expires in 54 years
Well, SSR expires in 2054. So there might have been a 54 in there somewhere!

I'm hoping that your friend either has a terrible memory or that he didn't even go to a DVC tour but instead went to another timeshare. Even then, what he says makes absolutely no sense.

He's the type of person that no matter what he's always right!
Amazing how some people's self-perception can stray so far from reality. :)

Wow, if I could be guaranteed that I could buy points at any time in the next 10 years and maintain the same price it is today, I would be all over that like white on rice!!!

Good story!

If DVC told me that I would be locked into the same price for the next 10 years I would buy 1,000 points! There is no way this could have happend, I just can't believe that this is DVC your friend is talking about. :faint:

Im agree with you don't get weeks with DVC.

Nothing more from this 'special' DVC membership. I'm sure I'll hear more about it soon. I'll most likely see him at a b-day party this weekend. He just kept on insisting that it is all completely different now and this is the new DVC special they are running to commemorate the '20-year' anniversary. He even said they saw the model at SSR AND then at OKW. They don't have a model at OKW!

So stubborn...my husband and I finally looked at eachother and said, 'wow, that's awful' that you have to pick weeks! We loved the fact that DVC offers so much flexibility.

Oh, well I'm sure he'll come to realize the real truth soon if that's what he bought. I got a thank you letter from DVC because they used our name, but I'll only believe it when I get the reward from the referral.

M*M :)

Don't laugh but we were told when we purchased that any additional points would be at the same rate that we paid at our original purchase....we certainly did the appropriate research and found that not to be the case before we purchased. When I went back to our guide and questioned the information I was told that I must have misunderstood....frankly when it comes to money I never misunderstand....

That is one of those things that make you go HMMMMM!:confused3 . Very interesting. We have only been members for a year and none of the info that he received was what I received. Thanks for the laugh!!:rotfl:

I read somewhere recently that the original Vistana resort recently had a 20th anniversary, and I believe their leases expire in 2060 (54 years).

I wonder if he's got his timeshare/ membership facts confused?

One more thing, the newest phase of the Sheraton Vistana Villages is called Key West....hmmm.

Maybe he's crazy...

...or maybe you're all just jealous that he's a better negotiator than you are.
