This has turned into a wonderfully fascinating thread! So many collectives to chose from, including monkeys!
My response was to Mainegal's post about "people in the real world" not having money for such things."
Kevin, I was talking about people I know in
my "real life", as opposed to the people I know here on the Dis Boards.
Here in Maine, I know people who are out of work or woefully under-employed hoping they can make their rent or house mortgage. One of my library staff works full time, but her husband has not had consistent work for over a year and a half. They just started getting food stamps to help keep the family afloat.
I know people who use the library because they have no computer at home or money to buy books. Teens come to the library to play DDR and Guitar Hero because they do not have video games at home.
$25 coffee makers come from
WalMart. Vacation is a day trip to the coast. And I have never seen a Dooney & Bourke handbag in central Maine.
I consider myself fortunate that I have a job with adequate pay, I do not spend more than I earn, have no debt and I am able to save money for the future. Truth is, I sometimes feel a bit out of element here!
Just the same, I am happy to go along for the ride.
