This is sort of a supplement to the flats idea, I guess. There's a lot of us saying that we're cancelling Disney trips that we had planned and going to the competition instead, because the closing of VMK has left a bad taste in our mouths. Here's what I'm planning on doing:
I'm going to tally up how much I would have spent with Disney in the next couple of years. This includes the DVC membership that I've been pushing pretty hard for, that I most likely would have gotten, and that I really don't want now. It also includes the fact that I was in the early stages of trying to get a trip planned for my parents, sisters, son and myself, all of whom play VMK and all of whom are very disappointed with Disney over this. That trip most likely won't happen. There are other things, too, but no need to enumerate all of them here.
I am then going to tally up how much we will be spending on things like an Alaskan cruise or a trip to Universal to see the new Hogwarts land instead.
Somewhere in there, I will account for how much MORE of our money Disney would have gotten if our EIGHT family members had been given the opportunity to pay to play VMK. I will include possible supplementary items such as trading card packs, pin packs, t-shirts and other merchandise.
I am then going to send all of these numbers to Disney Corporate, along with my family's flats and a letter making it extremely clear that the decision to close VMK has disenchanted me to the point that I no longer want to give them all of that money, which will instead be going to their competition.
Realistically, the VMK community taking their business elsewhere may not affect Disney's bottom line all that much. However, we all know how much they like having complete market share, especially when it comes to our vacation dollars. I believe that showing them in black and white that they will be losing some of that market share, however relatively small it may be, will bug 'em. At the very least, it will make them think.
Anyone with me?
