The quake seriously damaged 3 of the 4 major pinnacles? (spires) and they are further assessing the rest of the cathedral. The county adjoining ours to the southeast, directly bordering DC on the east, where I grew up has minor to moderate damage in 48 schools and has condemned 2 apartment buildings (eight stories high) that look modern to me due to cracks and stairwell damage.
I think what bothers me most now is that I didn't react at first. I just thought it was a big wind passing through or big trucks rumbling right past our huge windows in the building. If those windows had cracked and fallen in on me just three feet away.........or the ceiling tiles fallen down on me etc.
Well, anyway other than some big federal office buildings downtown closed, the Washington Monument closed (cracks at the top), some school systems closed all round the metro area, some train systems running slower due to checking tracks and much more damage further south towards the epicenter we're all okay and very thankful that no one was hurt!
And thank you everyone for your concern!
