Act Seven:
Scene One:
Location: Magic Kingdom, California Grill
The day dawned sunny and warm and we were thrilled. We headed over to Magic Kingdom early and got there right in time for the Main Street Trolley Show. Ive never actually scene this live. When I was younger our neighbors had the Sing-a-long from Magic Kingdom that included this show on the tape so I had seen it there, and I found it interesting that the soundtrack is the same
The dancers werent singing at all, it was totally recorded and was the same recording from the mid-90s movie. Usually the dancers at least sing along with the track recording, but not today! They were barely mouthing the words. I had a little giggle to myself. There was a Photopass Photographer there so we posed in front of the trolley and had a few pictures snapped before moving to the castle for some more prime photography spots.
Then it was off to ride Buzz Lightyear and grab Chris a Fastpass for Space Mountain before heading into Fantasyland to hit up those rides once again. We rode Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, Cinderellas Golden Carousel, Snow White and caught Philharmagic before heading over to Peter Pan
to find it closed for a repair. So, we grabbed Fastpasses for later in the day and decided to have an early lunch at Pinocchios Village Haus so Chris could get his own Figaro Fries since he kept eating mine on our first Magic Kingdom day. We both got the fries and Mickey rice krispies and then decided to go on Small World in hopes that Peter Pan would be open again when we were finished. Mary Blair is my idol and I love the refurbishment to the ride. The ride itself will forever creep me out, but the paint treatments and design are phenomenal.
As luck would have it Peter Pan was opened by the time we were finished and the line was already an hour wait. Good thing we had Fastpasses! We showed them to the CM and got in line. And this is where we experienced our most un-Disney moment of the trip. A gentleman waiting in the standby line with his family spotted Chris and I walking up the ramp with our Fastpasses, points at us and loudly exclaims to everyone waiting that it is absolutely ridiculous that they allow people without children to use Fastpass. No joke. I was floored. First off, it wasnt like they were out of them, there was nothing stopping him from using one too. Second, why make a comment like that? What good will it do? I chose not to let it get to me, too much, and moved on to enjoy my favorite Fantasyland ride. But still, how uncalled for. Grrr
.
From there it was off to the Haunted Mansion where I was pleasantly surprised to find that Madame Leotas head was once again working in her Crystal Ball. Did you guys know that the Leota Toombs was an Imagineer who was asked to stand in as the head so they could work out the effects on the crystal ball? She was so good that they decided to record her for real and use her in the permanent production. She worked in the Imagineering costuming department and was responsible for many of the animatronics pieces we still see today. Just a little bit of Disney Imagineering History for everyone to enjoy.
Then it was off to Frontierland to conquer a couple of mountains. By now it was HOT and we were grateful for our DVC passes so we hopped right in the fastpass line for Splash Mountain. Just a tip, if you dont want to get very wet sit on the right side of the log. The left side gets spit on by the frogs as you float through
hehehe, I knew this but Chris didnt
Then it was off to Big Thunder Mountain. I passed this time so Chris grabbed a Fastpass and jumped in line. Even with the FP it seemed to take forever for him to come through the mountain. Maybe it seemed so long because it was hotter than it had been the entire trip. He finally came around the bend and I managed to snap a picture of him as he went by. Then it was time for a Mickey Bar!
After our yummy ice cream we headed into Adventureland and took a picture of the Pirates sign since we werent going to get to ride it. Oh well. Since that was pretty much all we did in Adventureland I feel it necessary to tell a funny story about my trip with my mom and sister back in 1999, right after I graduated High School. As I have stated before I do not enjoy drops. At all. So, we hop on the ride and as we approached the drop I mention it to my mom. I believe I said something along the lines of, Im glad this drop is little. In
Disneyland there are two. To which my mom says, and I will remember this forever, Oh Lin, didnt you know? They refurbished this one a year or so ago and made the drop much bigger at the guests request. I dont know why but I believed her and just as we went over I screamed, threw my head forward and whacked it into the seat in front of me. Hard. It really hurt. To this day my mom tells this story every time we plan a trip or talk about a trip. Anyway, I just thought I would share.
From here we decided to head back to Tomorrowland so Chris could ride Space Mountain, then we did Buzz a few more times. Did you know that if you kiss in the picture (just a little peck) Zurg will zap your picture? Stupid Zurg. Then it was time to snag a spot for the Share A Dream Parade since we had missed it the first go around. There was an unoccupied Photopass Photographer at the Wishing Well on the walkway and he took some awesome pictures of Chris and I, and we got some awesome shots of the castle too. Then we grabbed a PowerAde and found a spot just to the left of the walkway to hang out until parade time.
People were just lining up and we got to watch all the little activities the cast members do to keep the kids occupied while they wait. It was cute. They also brought out the talking trashcan, who I had never seen before, and it was great. I was glad to have finally caught him. Then the parade began and I determined that I had found the best place ever to see a parade.
Then we shopped all the way up Mainstreet before heading back to the resort to get ready for our California Grill ADR at 7:20 that evening.
