Hi All!

My family is hitting the world this spring, and I need lots of help. While I've frequented this board on previous trips for guidance on dining for my daughter with Celiac, we've blessedly never had mobility issues. However, my mom has just learned that she needs a hip replacement. She's been moving slower for about a year, but now her doc is adamant she take a scooter to WDW or not go. So, scooter it is.

1. After reading lots of posts, I think we will rent from Apple Scooters. Can anyone give insight on how delivery and return work? Do we just get it from the bell hop or will the put it in our room? Do we have to be at the resort for them to pick it up or do we leave it at the front desk? We are staying at the Contemporary.

2. My mom is still mobile in her normal, non-Disney life, so she should be able to transfer to rides fine. It would be nice to keep the scooter most of the time in line. Is there a list somewhere of which ride's don't allow this?

3. Can you ride the scooter straight on the monorail?

4. How bad are the buses? My mom is really worried about this. I've tried to adjust our park hopping plans to minimize, but she is still freaked out. The scooter we would rent from apple says it breaks into 4 pieces. Could we break it up and carry it on instead of her riding it on, or is this insane?

5. Water parks. This is probably the dumbest question ever. Can the scooters get wet? She won't be driving it into the pool, but she was going to accompany me on our first ever visit to Blizzard Beach. I don't think she will be touring much, just helping me keep my 5-year-old safe. Is that park small enough that she may not need it?

6. Any scooter tips for total novices?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!

She will learn to love it!

You get it from bell services. You leave it at the front desk.

2. My mom is still mobile in her normal, non-Disney life, so she should be able to transfer to rides fine. It would be nice to keep the scooter most of the time in line. Is there a list somewhere of which ride's don't allow this? The only rides that don't allow it will have an alternate entrance (usually through the ride's exit) for her to drive through, so she won't have to walk any farther to get on those rides than the others.

3. Can you ride the scooter straight on the monorail? Yes. That's one of the perks of staying at a monorail hotel.

4. How bad are the buses? My mom is really worried about this. I've tried to adjust our park hopping plans to minimize, but she is still freaked out. The scooter we would rent from apple says it breaks into 4 pieces. Could we break it up and carry it on instead of her riding it on, or is this insane? I don't like riding/parking on buses either. She can have you or someone else park for her.

The tiller (hand controls) shouldn't get wet. You can cover it with a shower cap. During a storm it's a good idea to put a poncho over it to keep the seat dry.

6. Any scooter tips for total novices? Make sure you plug it in all night over night for a full charge. If you don't have room in your guest room, ask bell services if they'll store it over night and make sure they charge it! I'm enough of a control freak that I'd rather keep it in my room, or in the hallway nearby to make sure it gets charged. If you do need to keep it in bell services, you can drive it for your mom so she won't have to walk so far after dropping it off or to pick it up. Also, turn the key off whenever you stop for more than a minute. If the scooter starts to get sluggish in the parks, ask a cast member where you can plug it in. We've done it several times at different restaurants. If you want to park it near the strollers outside a restaurant or store, remember to keep the key with you. The cast members can still move the scooter if necessary.

The buses are not bad the drivers work very hard to load and unload you very safely. They will help you as much as they can they are not allowed to touch CB the ecv but most will park it for you. But if some don't it not because they being rude they might be afraid to get in trouble but should offer verbal help. Tell her to take her time she has every right to load the bus in a safe manor which the drivers will make sure she dose.

If you have any specific questions or concerns about the buses please feel free to ask. But please don't let hem ruin your trip they are such a small part of your trip and once you load once and get the hang of it you be fine the driver are very good and disney will make sure you have a good trip or they will make it right. They have upgrade their supervisor cars so they are driving around more they have the same paint job as the buses but have flashing lights. So if something happens they are ll repoond quickly and take care of it.
