I know there's been discussions about best burgers, and opinions on sit-down restaurants and fine entrees are plentiful. But has anyone run across what you'd consider just a KILLER sandwich, deli or otherwise, at any WDW eateries?

I vividly remember some years ago having what was then GF Cafe's signature sandwich, a turkey, cheese, etc., concoction covered with fried onion straws. Lordy, it was fine. I didn't check; don't even know if it's still available.

Anyone else made similar discoveries?

Dreamfinder2...my daughter and I have loved that sandwich at the GF for years. They changed the nane to Earl of Sandwich a few years ago but it was still the same sandwich until a few months ago. They have now switched from that great foccacia bread to whole wheat. We ordered it last month without noticing the change. It makes it taste so much different...I won't be ordering it again unless they can substitute something for the whole wheat. Just didn't taste good to me.

Okay...

Here is what I have had and loved...

Magic Kingdom - Plaza Restuarant - Reuben Sandwich - Corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing grilled on marble rye bread, served with fries. $10.39

The Gourmet Pantry also had a great Ruben on day... really good and great price, perfect sour pickles! I think it was about $4.99

Downtown Disney - DisneyQuest - Grilled Chicken Panini - Sweet onion jam, watercress and rosemary garlic sauce $5.95
*this one was great!*

Downtown Disney - House of Blues - "The Elwood" - Blackened Chicken Sandwich with Chili Garlic Mayonnaise, Green Chilis and Sour Cream served with Fries $9.95
*My boyfriend ordered this but I stole a whole bunch of bites from him... very good*

Downtown Disney - House of Blues - Classic New Orleans Shrimp Po-Boy served with Fries and Slaw $10.95
* I didn't actualy order this but it was on the tables of those on either side of us and looked sooooo good I have to have it next time...*

Epcot - Le Cellier - Lunch - Sirloin Steak Sandwich - marinated grilled steak with fried onions, cheddar and tarragon aioli on a grilled roll $11.29; add Canadian Bacon, Smoked Bacon or Sauteed Mushrooms for $0.99 each
*again I just stole bites from my boyfriend but I was jealous, it was so good, very big too... we could have shared it easily.*

I have not actually had the following two... but have heard good things and want to try them...

Magic Kingdom - Plaza Pavillion - Italian "Stack" Sandwich - Smoked ham, salami, turkey, blended cheese, lettuce & tomato. Topped with fried onions and served Warm. - $5.69

Magic Kingdom - Cosmic Rays - Sub-Orbital Cheesesteak Sub - shaved steak grilled w/cheese and onions, served with French Fries $6.69

Actually the tuna looks good at Columbia Harbour House and so does the shawarma at Tangerine Cafe in Epcot...

So many sandwiches... so little time...

My all-time favorite sandwich at WDW is the "Panino di Pollo" I get for lunch at Portobello Yacht Club in DD. It's a marinated chicken sandwich on a special Italian roll with cheese, peppers & ? DW & I share this so these are very mild, yet flavorful peppers.
The "hot deli sandwich" at Typhoon Lagoon is another favorite. Italian meats with a little caeser salad & dressing on top--served warm & fresh on some kind of special roll.

We've enjoyed many good sandwiches at WDW, but these are the two that stand out for us!

It's a tradition each trip to order this my first lunch in the MK.

Very fresh and tasty, it's served on 7-grain bread, and topped with tomatoes & alfalfa sprouts. A bag of Cape Cod potatoe chips rounds out the meal.:)

The veggie sandwich (can't remember what they call it) at Columbia Harbor House is outstanding. It has hummus, broccoli slaw, tomato -- can't remember what else -- on toasted vegetable bread.

The sandwich formerly known as the Doc Willets at the Whispering Canyon. You can still get it. It is called something else with a small variation but it is still excellent. Chicken breast grilled with Espresso BBQ sauce, Bacon and cheddar. They just do it so right nd it is almost to big.

I like the Yacht Club Sandwich at the Yacht Club Galley. Yummy. :) Plus, eating there you get that great cheese bread! ;)

The Gourmet Pantry has the best deli sandwiches!
They huge enough to split.

Salads are great too.

There's a Veggie Sandwich at CHH??!!!
I am a Vegetarian and I LOVE Hummus.
My DH is not a vegetarian, so maybe he can finally try the Chowder Bread Bowl we've heard so much about.
I will check it out when we go in a few weeks.
Thanks for this thread.
I learn something new at THE DIS everyday!

Where is the Gourmet Pantry? I tried to look it up on WDWIG to check out the menu but couldn't find it there either.
Is a connection Q & C good there or is it s sit-down?

It's at the Marketplace--inside the store with all the kitchen stuff. I remember seeing some gorgeous salads, too. It's a deli rather than a restaurant or fast food place. Tables and chairs are outside the store.
The store also has a candy counter and a bakery counter as well as sodas, beer, wine, cigars, etc.

My fave is the chicken sandwich at the Rainforest Cafe. The red peppers and bacon add a nice kick to it.

I have to agree with Taryn the Shrimp Po- Boy and the Elwood at House of Blues are our favorite sandwiches! The Po-Boy is incredible! My DH got it last time and I think I ate more of it than he did.

Was dissapointed with the bread change as well. You will be happy to know they still have the Foccacia bread and will substitute it to make it like it used to be.Just had one over the Halloween trip. :)

I am loving this sandwhich thread! I have had the elwood sandwhich and it is hugh. It can easily be shared.

madcoco....thanks, that's great news!:D

I love this thread...so many great sounding sandwiches!
