A Manly Man Limps through Disney - A Very Late May 2010 TR

Joining in!!!! Sounds like your off to a fun start and your first TR is going great!!!! Take it from another first time TR'r (?) haha!!!

Thanks and welcome! BTW, I'm loving yours too!

DHS has great rides (Toy story mania is one of my FAV rides) and LOVE the shows!

I know what you mean - the shows are one of my favorite parts of DHS!

Believe me, I pretty much lost all feeling, and the fourth round was very unimpressive!

The kids and I nabbed an outside table in the shade while Manly Man went in to order. MM got the pepperoni pizza and salad and I got the veggie pizza and salad. Both kids got cheese pizza and grapes. The pizza really wasn’t that bad (especially the veggie pizza) and the salads were really good. By the time we left, it was really starting to get crowded so we must have hit it at the right time.

BTW, we decided to do the dining plan for the first time this trip and we loved it. I liked knowing up front how much the vacation would cost (we used gift cards for all our souvenirs, so that wasn’t an unknown cost). I also like the freedom of being able to order whatever I wanted, regardless of the cost. I can be a little frugal (aka cheap) and I would have probably ordered burgers and chicken nuggets all week. We are also a family of dessert eaters, so we loved that part.

After lunch we ran into a new friend. We really enjoy this movie so the kids were tickled to meet him.

At this point, our belly’s were full and our feet dragging so grabbed FP for Star Tours on our way out and boarded the bus for POP. After a quick nap (yes, somehow we talked our 8&6 yr olds into a nap at Disney), we bussed back to DHS for The Little Mermaid.

We all really enjoyed the show, even Goofy although he didn’t want to admit it since boys shouldn’t like princesses …:rolleyes1… Afterwards, we used our FP for another ride on TSM.

Some really nice ladies in line behind us offered to take our picture. I think it is so nice when people do that. I try to do it too.

Checking the show schedule, I discovered if we hurried we could just make Beauty and the Beast. Even though I knew MM and Goofy wouldn’t be thrilled, this one was for the girls.

Can you tell I love this show? :lovestruc

The guys had to re-exert their manhood after two princess shows, so we headed over to Star Tours. We had a blast and I can’t wait until we go back to try the new version.

My fav place to eat! (Although it would lose its status towards the end of the trip). We had a really good meal and the kids loved the atmosphere.

I got the butcher steak with seasonal veggies and a potato. It was delicious! MM got the ribs and ended up sharing them with Princess. He and I both got milkshakes as our drinks to share with the kids. Both kids got the kid's pick with salads, mac and cheese and ice cream sundaes. The mac and cheese was nasty. Goofy ended up just eating salad, fries off his dad's plate and the sundae. I got the celebration cheesecake for dessert (just because I'd seen the pics on here and thought it looked good). It was but I couldn't come close to eating it all. MM got the Apple Crumble, which took first place for him for desserts all week. He ate every bite! Sorry for the lack of food pics - I'll do better with the next TR.

The only complaint was the service. We had a reservation at 6:40 and didn’t get out of the restaurant until 8:15! We’d planned on going to Fantasmic but when we turned down that street there were CM telling people it was standing room only. :sad1:

We considered going to the Animation Academy, but everyone was dragging (I blame it on the dark, cool atmosphere of Sci Fi) so we just headed back to the hotel.

Next up – our first RD at MK!

If anyone is still reading, sorry for the delay! Christmas is catching up with me. I'll try to post something later today or early tomorrow!

Oh I LOVE the Beauty and the Beast Musical show at DHS :)
Never have eaten at SciFi Diner though!

And no worries about not updating yet, I know I won't have my next update up till after Christmas, probably!

Day 3 – MK
Another wake up call from Stitch, a quick breakfast in the room, and we were on our way! Thanks to the great bus service at Pop (can’t say enough about it!), we made rope drop with plenty of time. None of us had ever seen it. I got tears in my eyes when they shot off the streamers!

We walked right on and both kids loved it. Yippee! We’d planned on getting FP for Splash, but there was no crowd and the day was plenty warm so we walked onto it too. (No pics for some reason – I think I was worried about my camera getting wet). The kids liked it so much that we went ahead and got FP for later.

We strolled over to Adventureland and one of my favs – Jungle Cruise. We sat right up front and our guide was great. She gave my dh a hard time which the kids loved and her delivery of the jokes was perfect.

We decided to ride the flying carpets.

Next up? Captain Jack of course!

DSC_0139.jpg

We managed to walk onto everything in the area. I’m not sure where the crowds were, but we managed to get everything done we wanted to do for the day before lunch!

We still weren’t hungry, so we made our way back to Splash Mountain and BTMR. We rode both of them again and then walked over to Peco’s Bills for lunch. I knew my son wouldn’t eat anything there, so I told MM what I wanted to eat and took my son to the Golden Oakpost to order. He got chicken tenders and fries and we met MM and Princess back at a table inside Peco’s Bills.

MM got the BBQ sandwich and fries with strawberry yogurt for desset, I got the cheeseburger, fries and carrot cake while Princess got the kids hamburger, grapes and a cookie. Everything was so good!

The park was starting to get crowded and our legs were tired from walking so we headed out to the bus back to Pop for a rest.

Since we’d covered our day’s plan in the morning, what to do this afternoon? And, coming up, our best meal of the trip.

I'm still here! :yay:

I totally agree with you about the DDP. It is so nice to just pay for it up front, and not have to worry about anything else after that. It really does make budgeting much easier.

I also can't wait to go on Star Tours once it's up and going again!

You'd love Sci Fi - I highly recommend it.

Glad I'm not alone!

Thanks for sticking with me! Looks like you are making it back before me so you'll have to let me know how the new Star Tours looks when it is up and running.

Woops! I found a few more BTMR and Splash pics from our second turn. Also, even though I forgot it write it in my notes, we did Haunted Mansion. It's one of my fav rides, but Goofy did not like it AT ALL, so we didn't ride it again.

HAHA I LOVE Haunted Mansion too! It's always a must-do!!!!

Great Pictures!!!!

I just found your TR. We went in May in 2009, loved the DDP, took the rest in the afternoon. My kids are about the same age as yours & we are going back in May 2011.

We skipped out on the Haunted Mansion & POTC last time - I'm glad your kids liked POTC (I'll have to start warming the kids up to the Haunted mansion, maybe find a YouTube viod they can watch).

Oh and TSM is our Family Favorite !!

Welcome DeckedOut! My kids loved POTC. My daughter loved HM, but my son definitely did NOT. I think it just depends on the kid. I'm excited you get to go back so soon - less than 5 months!

Just a quick post to everyone else - sorry for the lack of updates. We had a health scare with my son. It's turned out okay, but we had a couple of scary weeks with words like blood cell count and leukemia floating around. He's fine, it was another false alarm (the second we've had with him) but I haven't been around much. I'll get another update posted soon!

Wow, I am glad to hear that it was just a false alarm and that everything is okay.

When we came back to MK, we met up with some new friends. They were so good with the kids!

We walked into the Move it! Shake it! Parade. It was cute. Nothing I would sit down and stake out a spot for, but enjoyable.

After the parade, we had to have the obligatory family castle photo (see the lack of crowds? I love going in May!)

DSC_0163.jpg

Since we’d covered the left side of the park, we headed to Tomorrowland! We grabbed FP for Space Mountain and went off to battle Zurg. I was so excited – I’d read all sorts of hints on the boards and I just knew I would beat my dh for the first time ever. So what happens? The ride gets stuck with him right in front of a big point target. He just sat there and pinged that thing for five minutes. Sigh. I’ll never beat him.

When we got off, I wanted to see the Monster’s Laugh Floor, but they’d just started a show so we went across the street to Stitch. Not my fav, but I knew my 8 yr old boy would think it was hilarious and he did. Somehow we forgot about Monster’s when we left (not sure how, since they are right across the street) but we decided to go drive cars instead. Surprising little wait - maybe 15 minutes and I was expecting much more.

We made it back to Space Mt., which I apparently didn’t take pics of?. It was getting close to our ADR for dinner and I wanted to do something I’d never done at Disney – take a ferry!

Our reservations were for O’hana at the Polynesian and we sailed across the smooth water to the best food of our trip. We waited less than five minutes, even after hearing them tell a walk-up it would be 2 hours without a reservation.

The meal here is so good! Again, the chef came out first thing to talk to MM about his shellfish allergy, which we resolved by just not having any shrimp brought to the table. I kid him about not being sure I would have married him if I’d known I’d have to give up seafood, but I don’t really mean it. I think. 
The kids had a blast with all the activities. The pics are a little blurry from the action – I need to learn to use my camera better – but they had coconut races and a limbo contest.

Then it was time to eat!

DSC_0197.jpg

We started out with the bread and salad. Let me tell you, my kids chowed through that bread in a heartbeat. Then we loaded up on potstickers and wings. Princess is a true carnivore and she had sticky sauce up to her elbows and a big smile on her face. Goofy loved the noodles and broccoli. The meats were all good. The turkey/chicken (I’m not sure – it was the white meat) was a little dry, but the dipping sauces took care of that. The dessert was out of this world. Yum! Highly recommend!

By the time we got out, it was dark and we were tired so we took the monorail back to MK and the bus to POP. Next up – another day at Epcot!

we went to O'hana for breakfast, not for dinner. Sounds like that would be a good thing to try soon!!!

Sorry to hear you had to go through a health scare with your son, but so glad things turned out OK!

In our first 15 min at MK on our arrival day we ran into the Move it Shake it parade. We watched the parade while our ice cream melted in 90+ degree heat. I hope I never forget those moments, drinking my chocolate ice cream in front of the castle listening & watching that parade.

I love Buzz – great picture of the kids in jail! And the drivin the cars – Sounds like your having a blast!

O’hana is our favorite. Your pictures of the coconut races turned out much butter than the ones I tried to take! It was one of our must do ADR’s, it will be torture waiting 6 days into our trip for that one.

How did the kids like the Stitch thing?
