Hi! I live in Zone 8. I currently have a yard that has no plants in it (long story, yard had to be dug up). I travel alot for work and need some suggestions for plants that are very low maintenance. Our yard stays shady most of the time and very moist, no lack of moistsoil there! Just looking for suggestions of what to plant. We are planning to plant and hire yard help for when we are gone but still want easy maintenance plants. Fire away!

Hosta and Mexican Heather are both very easy to take care of. Both also do good in shade.

There are many varieties of ferns that love shade but especially moist areas. They look beautiful and pretty much take care of themselves. You can also try some lily of the valley as they have beautiful bell like flowers in the spring, but they do tend to spread like wild fire so try and put these in an area that might be self contained. My favorite plant/shrub is the Golden euonymus, its leaves are both green and gold and accent any garden beautifully. I find they grow well in both sun and shade.
Good luck!

I agree about the hosta. You just can't kill it. I once bought a box from Walmart of wildflower seeds mixed varieties. They were specifically for the shade. I have gotten a some very sturdy daisies out of it. They are very tall and of course wild looking. But they fit in one area well. Also vinca vine in my yard does well in the shade. It is a groundcover and is very agressive. Sorry I don't know any better choices for your area. good luck!
