This actually was taught in school. I have a third grade spelling book to prove it! It also has lite, etc. It's one of those crazy 70s books.

I had an English teacher in high school that was furious at me for writing "alot". I went back to my elementary school to prove it to her. The book wasn't in use anymore, but one of my old teachers gave it to me.

I kept it all these years! lol No, I'm not a pack rat, I just have found memories of my school years.
