I wanted to ask any people who have to make long flights over to disney, how do you pass the time. I live in England and its at least an 8 hour flight. I have been to Disney 3 times before, but i always run out of things to do on the way there and get aggitated. Any suggestions, even for people who have short flight would be much appreciated.

You might want to bring a book, crossword puzzles, ect. I only have a 2 hour flight from where I live, but that' what I do to pass the time.

we love our portable DVD player... we pick out three movies and know that when they are done - we are there :cool1:

We flew to Hawaii this spring (9 1/2 hours). My friends were actually laughing at me because I was looking forward to being able to SIT in one place and READ for a LONG time! I bought myself lots of magazines, a couple of books, and my own DVD player and DVDs that I wanted to watch. My kids always hogged our DVD player - so this time I was prepared. I watched some good movies that I hadn't had time to watch and Live Aid which I haven't seen since the 80's!! Buying my own dVDs before the trip was fun for me!!

Have a safe & fast flight!!

When we went last time we filled out all of our xmas cards (we went in Oct), it was pretty boring but passed the time away and saved us a job to do when we got home.

We are going in August this year so we are not to sure what we will do, I guess we could do the up coming birthday cards.

The only thing you should be doing on the way home is getting your trip report written. :rotfl2:

I agree with the other posters a portable DVD player is the way to go. We flew from Boston to Ca. which was about a 7 hour flight and my 2 boys who are 4 and 1 sat still the whole flight.

im from england too and the flight from manchester is around 9.45 hrs. we tend to watch the inflight entertainment or read a book (but i prefer to sleep)

i also check I have all the directions a million times too

I am coming from Australia and it's a 20 hour flight!!!!!!! I am dreading it!!! Flying with United without those personal TV things on the back of the seats, so I don't know what I will do. I wish I could be anaesthetised the whole way!!!

I don't tend to have too much trouble in the way out - I read the unofficial guide again! The excitement and the fact that I should be awake keeps me going - although it's annoying that when you're busy rushing around at home you wish you could just sit and do nothing - and then when you *have* to sit and do nothing you want to do something :0)

Personally I find the flight home HORRENDOUS - I can't sleep so I get all cranky - it's not good :0(

I'm liking the idea of a personal DVD player - I'm thinking of getting a media player to stick my photos on so I might get one as I can use it on the flight as well.

Virgin usually play good films - but usually when I want to read or sleep!

I used to travel to London and Sydney a lot when I was still working - I know about those long flights.

I love to do Books on Tape. In the old days you had to carry a million cassettes and then it became a little easier with the cds, but now I use Audible.com and download books to my MP3 player.

I have a Rio Forge MP3 player (512k) and I can hold at least 20 books (9-10 hours per book). I love having this to pass the time and it is so much easier than trying to carry a bunch of books. On my first trip to Australia in 1993 I kept having to go buy more books during my 3 week stay.

I have traveled to Europe several times in the past couple of years that I have been retired. Sometimes I take an Ambien as soon as I am in my seat, and then I sleep for about 6 hours. I skip the meals. This would not work if you have children that you need to be supervising though. It has made the time adjustment SO much easier.

I would love to visit Australia, but I don't know if I could handle that long flight. I've often said the only way I think I could do it if is I was knocked out!

I get sick if I try to read, even with Dramamine, so am I stuck with mostly looking at the seat in front of me. Makes trips seem even longer.

In September we will be flying to Hawaii and I plan on taking my laptop to watch DVD's. If the movie on board is a good one, of course, I'll watch theirs. But with a 9 plus hour flight, I can probably do both.

Flying first class, so it will be so much more comfortable than coach. My family of five are flying together so at least we have each other to talk to and pass the time away.

Can't wait for that trip. Two weeks in Hawaii with my family. :grouphug:

We usually upgrade to first class and they give us portable dvd players with movies loaded on them (tv shows too). People in Coach can reserve these ahead of time on Alaska Airlines (not sure of other airlines) with two movies and the meal I usually only have to find something to do for about 2 hours. So, I knit, sleep (only if I have earplugs can I sleep on a plane), listen to my IPOD (books on tape is a great idea), play my gameboy. If my DH can't sleep which is very rare we've been known to play travel Scrabble. I've even pulled out my water colors and painted a bit when I used to fly from Boston to Seattle and back but that was tricky because the Flight Attendants were reluctant to part with water.

We're from Scotland but often fly out via London from our local airport.

Most airlines have the seat-back tv's nowadays and play movies that are usually still in theatres. You also have a few choices at start time, too which is very good if everyone wants to watch something different. They usually have kids movies and a channel with continuous cartoons as well and I find this does help pass the time.

I always bring some magazines and our DD3 enjoys colouring.

The good thing about the return flight to the UK is that it's overnight, so if you can, just sleep all the way home!

I take a couple of books by authors that I like, watch the movies, listen to my ipod and take allong some portable board games (oh and I love watching the little aeroplane on the screen so I can see where we are!!)
