A little something new in Japan Pavillion!

Thanks for the heads up. We are a family that probably spends far too much time in the Japan Pavillon, happy to have something new to look at. We'll be there in 26 days.

I was there last spring and am heading up there again in a coupla months - Where IS the Japanese store at exactly in the pavilion? I had heard there was all sorts of anime/manga related toys and stuff for sell there but I went to the far back of the pavilion where they had what appeared to be the store and I never saw anything like that. Did they stop selling that kinda stuff or did I just not look hard enough?

Right when you come in through the entrance that's closest to the lake. Can't miss it! Sounds like you went to the back entrance.

The Mitsukoshi Department Store dominates the Japanese pavilion. It is underneath the Tokyo Dining/Teppan Edo restaurants. If walking into the World Showcase, as soon as you reach the Japanese Pavilion, it is on your immediate right at ground level. I'm guessing you walked deep into the Japanese Pavilion, saw the spirit animals display, maybe walked into the candy/tea area of Mitsukoshi but didn't realize that the store curves around. The part of Mitsukoshi that sells anime/manga toys is on the other side of the store. The anime/manga toys are in the part of the store directly underneath Tokyo Dining. When you see the big flight of stairs leading up to Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo, look to the right or left for a door to the store at ground level. Hope that helps!

Yup that's what I did! :D

The store is huge. After going in, if you had gone right, you eventually would have made it to the opposite end of the store, where the anime stuff is. They have a lot of t-shirts, books, and other merchandise, plus more expensive collectibles inside a glass case.

How long do the keep exhibits around for? This looks great!

The last exhibit was there for several years (at least 3), though I can't find evidence among our photos to confirm exactly how long :)

I think it's been several years since they last changed the exhibit. I think the previous spirit,/manga exhibit was there for 3-4 years?
Love spending time in the Japanese Pavilion and we always stop by the gallery. DH usually has to brace himself for the hit to his credit card when we get to Mitsukoshi. The new exhibit looks interesting - when we were in Tokyo it seemed like popular culture, at least for the female side, was all about kawaii!

Yeah, that's what I did - But I got about halfway to the front and it looked like there was only japanese furnishings and fashion from there on out so I bailed and went back to the "back" where my family was getting some Pocky. :)

It's really difficult in the international pavilions to tell that you've seen "everything" in one of the pavilions or that there might be even more in the pavilion than what's at the front. Britain's pavilion is all up front and if you go further back you're just getting ambience, but France's pavilion is completely the opposite and then some don't have much of anything... It's hard to keep the family wanting to explore by the time you get around to Germany and we've already spent a good chunk of the day at the front of Epcot.

Heads up for anyone searching for specific anime. My DD is a huge fan of Death Note and was hoping to find merch. We found nothing and asked a cast member and she told us Disney doesn’t allow anything in the store that has demons, death, destruction - basically most anime. So you'll find Pokemon, Miyazaki stuff, Hello Kitty, Godzilla. Not too "deep" into most of the genre. Lots of Domo too.

If you are there right now or going soon, check it out. :) When people ask what there is to like about World Showcase besides shops and restaurants, this is the kind of thing I love about it....

That explains why I don't remember seeing it before. My family stumbled upon this on Friday, and enjoyed it a lot. I have a new appreciation for Japanese culture since visiting last year and this was a nice surprise.

Well this looks fun! I'm looking forward to seeing it on our trip in January, hopefully.

They really need to give that mannequin a petticoat though!

We enjoy whatever exhibits Japan and China have. We'll definitely look for this one.

We will be in the store even longer than last trip, & that was at least an hour, easy. I am a HJ lover & DH & both DS are a bit fanatical about Japanese culture. This is exhibit looks so supa kawaii!

image.jpeg DD and I went in a couple days ago. She loved it. I was too busy trying to figure out how we'd missed it before.

I always think that the Japan displays are too rarely seen in Epcot, we always enjoy them. I think I'll miss seeing this though:tanooki.jpg
