A little rant about the 60 day window prejudice against DVC owners

Sooo I have 2 DVC reservations for a 10 day trip (2 different resorts). And I am frustrated that they can't link the reservations so I can make all my ADRs at once. I called Disney and they said they can do that for a "regular" Disney reservation but not DVC. I called DVC and they said they used to be able to do this but "they" took it away a few years ago. I said to the person this really puts DVC members at a disadvantage especially trying to get a "hot" ADR (like Space 220). She agreed but said until they feel the frustration of the members it won't likely change. Kinda ticks me off :headache:

Disney seems to change the ADR rules pretty often. In Dec. I had 3 nights in one of the new VGF resort studios followed by 11 nights in a 1 br. in the original VGF building & was very irritated that I had to get up in the middle of the night my time (3:30 a.m. to be ready to book on time) twice. And the website was the worst I’ve ever experienced, it kept crashing & not recognizing that I had a stay booked - it was an awful experience times two.
What we discovered when we were actually at WDW was how easy it now is to cancel & rebook elsewhere w/ the 2 hr. cancelation. In the past we never canceled but in Dec. ‘22 we grabbed several hard to get reservations that we had not gotten at 60 days the day of & canceled our back ups. We also changed our times for a couple of our ADRs on the day of.
We did not try for Space 220 since we’d eaten there in Dec. ‘21 & were not impressed w/ the service or the food, in fact it was our worst dinning experience in our 11 day 2021 visit.

I agree it is annoying that it doesn't see split stays as a continuous stay like it used to, but it isn't just DVC owners that are hurt by this. Anybody who wants to do a split stay (AP holders with split resorts, people who book rooms and tickets separately, etc) are in the same boat.

The system never saw split stays as continuous. Before they fixed the system, it just blindly let people book for up to 10 days regardless of their length of stay. Some people would book one day on site and ten days offsite just so they could get the ADR benefit. Somehow, they figured it out for FastPass+ which would recognize a continuing stay, but ADR's never worked that way.

For a while, the DVC folks could get Member Services to book ADR's based on the entire stay while other guests could not. Recently (within the past year), people have been reporting that the Dining Reservation folks have been able to get it to work. My gut tells me that you got someone on the phone who gave you the answer that worked for them. There's no reason DVC should be any different than other guests when it comes to ADR's, and I bet either group could make it work. I'd call back and ask again.

That is not my pre-covid experience (at least with cash stays). We gad a 3 day stay at YC and a 14 day stay at CBR. It allowed us to book the entire trip at once for ADRs and FP+.

The ability to blindly book +10 went away somewhere around 2015 or maybe 2016. The folks on the phone were able to override it for about 90 days, but after that, even they were locked out.

Got it. Our first visit was 2018. So that explains why it wasn't my experience :-)

Make a cash booking at a refundable hotel for the same time period as your DVC reservations (you will have to pay a first night’s deposit). Make your Dining Reservations. Then cancel the cash booking and get the deposit refunded. Levels the playing field.

Sometimes, LOL. But occasionally, compliments go to that address, especially for CMs who have gone above and beyond. It's not all bad.

This. It's not "prejudice against DVC owners" it is just how the system works for split stays.

According to folks on the Dining boards, you can sometimes get a CM on the phone who will book the second half of your stay for you in the first-half 60-day window, but it's definitely a hit-or-miss thing; not everyone on the phone can/will do it.

Not sure why you quoted me. I was saying the same thing. It's not DVC, it's anybody on a split stay. That is what my post says.

Yes, I was re-affirming it (and giving you credit), not trying to accuse you of anything. Sorry for not being more clear!

Not true. Disney reservations and DVC both told me that a Disney reservation through Disney can have the reservations linked so its a continuous reservation. DVC has a separate and different system that doesn't allow it. A few years ago DVC was able to do it but they changed the system and took that capability away. This was told to me by 3 separate people at DVC - supervisors and at the Disney side. The Disney people were going to link my reservations Sunday when I called until they realized they were DVC. Two people on the Disney side on separate calls said the same thing - if it was a Disney split stay they could do it. I was told to complain and "maybe" they would do a upgrade or patch or whatever they called it. But the fact remains that a split stay on the Disney side can do it. We will see if they reply to my email.
