You all seem pretty knowledgeable and helpful, maybe you can give me some ideas with this one! Me (soon-to-be college grad) and my younger sister (16yo) are flying down to WDW in June for a 5 day trip. (We are sooo excited!)

The trip is VERY BUDGET though, and we are looking to spend as little as possible on food (eat breakfast in the room, split some CS, etc). We are staying at Pop Century, and there are no fridge swaps available for our dates, and I really don't want to rent a fridge since it's so expensive :headache: I was thinking about also checking a small suitcase with snacks in it to help with our food budget. What would travel well in a checked suitcase and not get smashed or explode? Has anyone done that before? I am sort of drawing a blank.

We'd especially like to bring some snacks that are a bit heartier than the usual granola bars and the like, maybe some peanut butter sandwiches. Any ideas? Thanks!!! :goodvibes

Edited to add: We are using Magical Express, so we won't have a car.

We always bring breakfast items that we can eat in the room. We bring cereal and bowls (sometimes the single-serving size, sometimes the regular boxes (we get mild at the food court), bags of mini-muffins, granola bars, sandwich crackers, etc. You could also bring things to go in a toaster (they have at food court). When you go to CS, you could get the double cheeseburger and ask for extra bun (less than $1 for bun). Look on Allears for some of the cheaper places to eat. Trails End at FW is a very inexpensive all-you-can-eat restaurant. Good luck!

Pop-tarts are great for breakfast! We usually take our food in our carry-on to prevent anything breaking or getting smushed in the checked luggage. We also take sandwich crackers, viennas, beanie weanies, (not sure how the liquid rules apply to these nowdays on planes?--may have to check them now), cheezits, and nuts. We also eat pretty cheap at the counter svc. places. Don't usually take the time for table svc. restaurants. You could eat one big meal late afternoon and snack the rest of time.

We bring breakfast items, those 100 calorie packs of assorted snacks, and those crystal light drink packets...no offense to Disney but the water is HORRIBLE!

I second the hundred calorie snack packs and the crystal light packages. I always bring the pringles snack packs too. Maybe fruit snacks or fruit leather.

I usually bring milk and cereal bars.. oodles of noodles cups..oatmeal..(you can run the water through the coffee maker) and use styrofoam cups.. trail mix...poptarts..hot cocoa...mac and cheese cups..beef jerky and dried fruit.
You can also bring goober grape pb&J .. they sell bread in most gift shops.
Oh and I just recently saw at Walmart that they have cream cheese in a can.. so maybe you could bring that with bagels.
Hope you have a great trip!

Whatever you do, make sure your snack doesn't melt!! One time, I boneheadedly put some Hershey's Kisses in my bag. In a couple of hours I reached in to find...chocolate all over everything, including the tiny nooks and crannies of my camera! Ugh! And I am from Florida...I should know better!:headache:

I know you are on a tight budget so this may cost a little more then taking them in a suitcase but why not ship a box down to your resort. We packed the snacks last time and most of it was mushed. I did the box thing this time and it was much better, all arrived in one peice. You can put some of those things you like but would get crushed in the suitcase. Send cereal, crackers, granola bars and whatever you like. You can get milk the night before and just keep it in the ice bucket. To save on drinks you could send down water also. You could also bring a hot pot with you and cook things like mac and cheese and ramon in that. I am a former flight attendant and I used to travel with my hot pot (I assume they are still available) when I was an add and therefore not with a crew to go out to dinner with. I'd just bring the food for dinner and make it in the pot. You could really save on food costs then. If you decide to send your food in a box you might want to line it with a plastic bag to protect your food should the box get wet at all. My anal retentive virgo mind was worried about soggy food.
