A little nervous about San Angel Inn ...

We ordered the first item on the menu, it sounded inocuous enough, Chicken, tortillas, onions, red sauce, and sour cream. We also order the burrito, also very innoculous sounding.

What we got was a mushy chicken lasanga like amalgem of disaster that was inedible and the burrito-esq concoction was not any better.

What did you get that was edible?

I am serious we took two bites and threw the food away! It was unbeliveable!

The combination platter they used to serve was delish!

We split a burrito and I got the guacamole and chips - it was really good. I was also stunned to see they were making the nachos to order - I never understood how a place could premake nachos ... that's just gross.

The burrito we got was full of mushy rice, it was really gross.

Maybe we caught a really really really really off day! There is no way people will eat there if what I experienced is the norm! I'm glad to hear your burrito was good.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. The only people who should be worried are the ones who think Mexican food is all about tacos, burritos, and nachos. There's more to Mexican food then just that and this place caters to those who are looking for more traditional Mexican food. If that's you then I would suggest giving San Angel a try.

Well-I warned you-it ain't tacos. I think that this is the source of many of the negative reviews-it just isn't what people expect. Everyone has different tastes-to others, especially those that have eaten this kind of food before, it's one of the best places in Epcot!

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I think most people who eat there expect Americanized Mexican food (a la Taco Bell, On the Border, etc) and don't see tacos/burritos/fajitas on the menu and it takes a bit off.

As someone who LOVES authentic Mexican food (as in, the best I ever had was in a small palapa in the Puerto Vallarta countryside), I was glad to see a more traditional approach to Mexican food at San Angel Inn and I loved it. My sister, while not as much of a fan of the real stuff, liked it as well.

No nachos, no tacos, no fajitas, but I had some amazing tortilla soup, a fantastic steak and the best flan I'd ever had.

Bottom line? If you're looking for Mexican food a la Chevy's, On the Border, Taco Bell, etc, San Angel Inn probably isn't for you. But if you're looking for a more traditional approach to Mexican cooking and a gorgeous atmosphere, it's very much worth a shot :)

^^^ My sister got here first I guess! LOL

I thought I would add I went in expecting to HATE the food... I was wayyy intimidated by the menu, especially since it had a bunch of seafood and duck dishes (which I don't eat), and everything seemed really heavy for lunch. Suprise suprise, I LOVED it! The chicken with sour cream sauce (just looked at the menu and I think its the Pollo De Las Rajas) was one of the best things I had to eat all vacation. I don't remember which appetizer I had but that was really good too. Plus, we had an amazing table right by the "waterfront". I would NOT hesitate going again our next trip to the world.

I wanted to chime in and say I booked this place in spite of the reviews because our itinerary was full of character meals and we needed an adult not standard meal. I LOVE the atmosphere, romantic yet the kids also thought it was cool (a volcano spewing every so often had my DS mesmerized and kept watching and waiting for it to happen) and the food was good. I forgot what I ordered but it had steak and plantains(yum!) the kids ate their cheese quesadillas up (a change from chicken nuggets, hamburgers, fries and grapes) and I loved the white chocolate raisin bread pudding w/caramel sauce for dessert I was soo full they put it in a cup with a lid on it and I took it to go(remember to take a plastic spoon w/you)- my husband had the berries and mousse one. The server was prompt and friendly and kept the drinks going (it was sooo hot and humid outside, the margarita was fantastic!)

Go in without preconceived notions and you'll have a good experience. I think people who has been there so many times and then turn around and trash it just because it "wasn't their usual" scare newbies and that is just wrong.

ask for a seat up on top overlooking the temple in the back... it is awsome and look for the shooting star across the sky.. the kids would love it. I even had my daughter eating duck !

if you really enjoy eating authentic mexican than it is really good. disregard all the other complaints you hear from the other people . I guess they are used to " Taco Bell " :rotfl2:

go for it it is worth it.....Enjoy
