A little help with extra day planning

Originally we were going to drive so we were going to be there 2 weeks, now we are flying so we will only be there a week, we have 5 day PH I did get the 5th day free so I would be willing to do a partial day if needed. We arrive June 18th into SNA at 11:10AM and have booked DLE to get us to PVI. My kids love the beach we also have a Pirate dinner adventure that we will be doing one night, since we will be getting there so early in the day I don't want to just waste the day but we also won't have a car unless we go ahead and rent one. I have also wanted to take the kids to the Pacific Aq and Battleship IOWA so what would be my best plan of action, we will have a whole day to spare also. And what would be the best/cheapest way to get around should we go ahead a rent a car for a few days since PVI has free parking or public transport can get us to these places cheap??

I would just rent a car for a few days. There are several rental agencies around Harbor/Katella that the car can be returned. I would cancel DLE and pick the car up at SNA....as long as they allow the drop off in Anaheim.
If you have a Costco membership, check out their rates (even if you want to rent and drop off in Anaheim).

I had thought about renting from the airport but it is quiet a bit more than from Anaheim, I would really like to maybe do a beach that half day of arrival but with traffic and all I dont know if that is feasable if we get to our hotel get a rental then go to the beach

I don't know about the beach, we took a driver from our hotel (it was basically a cab) to Huntington Beach - it was expensive but we didn't want to rent a vehicle for 8 people for one morning.

We did take the Metro bus several times to Knotts Berry Farm and Medieval Times.
Cheap and easy. I used the website and the nextbus website on my phone to see when it was coming and Google maps helped too. There is a transit tab that shows which bus to take.

Eta- the Pirates dinner is near Medieval Times and Knotts I believe in Buena Park.

If i get a car from enterprise in Katella its only $95 from Sat until I bel Thurs afternoon so that is really good, I think we might go ahead and get a car from there after we arrive and see if we have time to get to Newport beach we went there our last visit and I dont think it took a long time to get there
