I was hoping my Diser friends could help me out and work a little DIS magic for DD (7). DD, our little performer, did a Christmas solo yesterday and she is really proud of it. (DH and I are too, especially since she just got the songs last week). She says it would be really neat if she could get 100 hits on YouTube before Christmas. A couple of years ago, when she had a Christmas performance, the disers really helped out by knocking that count up for her and she was so excited. I was hoping you guys would be kind enough to help get her to 100. You don't have to watch the video, if you could just click on it to get her count up I would so appreciate it. We are stuck inside with nasty weather, so it would be fun for her to see it going up. Thanks so much! Here is the link:

Thank you guys so much! You are so sweet for actually watching her! And thanks to all my Disers who clicked on it. You guys are awesome. I can't believe she got up to 160 views yesterday! She was so excited!!!

Well, I think she needs to set her goal little higher :) I don't see why it can't be 250 by Christmas!

WOW- you are right. She hit 250 today- I can't believe she did that in just a couple of days. You guys are great! She will be thrilled when I show her how many hits she has!

Thanks so much for the compliments everyone and thanks for watching her! I think she is pretty talented...but I'm her mom! ;) :rotfl: She loves singing and she loves the stage!

I can't help but think you are on a slippery slope. Part of me wants to click on the video to make a little girl happy, but the other, perhaps wiser part is screaming NO NO NO! I'm worried your little girl will grow up seeking approval from total strangers rather than just pursuing what she loves because she loves doing it. How would she have felt if she had only gotten 5 views? I'm thinking she would feel sad or disappointed, but in reality she should feel no different about herself if she gets 5 views or 1000000 views. I hope she knows this. I did not click the link or watch the video, but I still wish you a merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you as well, and I don't take your thoughts personally at all, but I have a feeling you don't have a performer or theatre kid. She does it because she really really loves it, but part of having an interest in the arts is wanting an audience too. One of her dreams is to be on American Idol someday, which I tell her over and over will probably be cancelled long before she is old enough to try out to be on the show. :) She knows youtube, and understands that people put videos on and other people watch them. I'm impressed that she set an "attainable" goal. She didn't wish for her video to go viral or get a million hits, she just said she would like to see 100. That shows at least something close to realism. She is beyond thrilled that it has gone above 250- she wasn't asking or even hoping for more than 100 even after it hit her goal. This is "her thing"- at least for now. I think the kid was singing before she could even talk. I don't know if this is something she will stick with, but we will support her as long as it is something she really loves and enjoys doing. I really thank the Disers who did click on it, and certainly did not expect everyone to do so.

If she sticks with it, she is going to have disappointments. There will be lots of roles and solos she doesn't get and there will be performances when she messes up- just like for a sports kid they may not make the team, or get the position they want to play or may make a mistake in the game.

This probably won't ever be her profession, but there are a ton of professions that seek approval in one way or another. Most in the artistic areas do. An artist paints or sculpts because they love it, but they are also thrilled when they sell that first painting or sculpture and realize someone else appreciates their work. The dancers and the performers in the shows at Disney do it because they love it and they want an audience to love it too.An interior designer does their job because they like it, but their goal is also to get approval from and see the happiness of their clients. Anyone involved in any type of theatre or film production both behind the scenes and in front is hoping that their work finds an audience who appreciates it. A lawyer seeks the approval of the jury. They want the jury to like them and hopefully also to like their client and their case position so that they win. An inventor hopes that the world loves and buys his products. All of those are professions that seek the approval of strangers in some respect.

Also, you don't have to worry about her. She is an extremely outgoing kid with a strong personality, who for the most part doesn't worry about what anyone else thinks at all. (That is probably one of the reasons she has absolutely no fear on stage and never has- she does it for herself and if others like it that is all the better but she doesn't worry about whether they will). A joke around our house is that we don't really worry about her giving in to peer pressure when she is older- we worry about the calls we are going to get from other parents about what she has dragged their kids into. In 1st grade she had a group of her classmate girls tell her that she was too old to like the Disney Princesses, that they were for babies, and that she needed to give them up. She told those girls that she would like whatever she wanted to like, that they couldn't tell her what she could or couldn't like, and that she liked the Princesses. One of her teachers told us her prediction was that DD would either be a star or a CEO when she grew up. :rotfl:

Thanks for your concern and Happy Holidays!

You know why you're stuck inside don't you? It's because she sang about letting it snow and was dreaming for a White Christmas. Sounds like she got her wish. :rotfl:

She did a great job by the way. :santa:

I just clicked, she's past 250 and nearing 300!!

Of course, I did this knowing I'm ruining all her life's chances to be normal and well adjusted. :lmao:

She is amazing! I have theater kids who sing/dance/act. Your daughter has a good belt for such a young age. She will be getting all the leads in the musicals. Does she do any professional work yet or just community theater?

WOW! She has a Wonderful voice! You must be so proud!!! And so much poise for a girl her age. GreatJob!!:thumbsup2

Thank you! I'm feeling so much better now! And you're right,we don't have a performer in the family, we are all engineers, even DS3. I like your perspective. Congrats on her getting 300 plus views and setting attainable goals.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: It all melted on Christmas eve afternoon though so she didn't quite make it. ;) Thanks.

301 when I watched it…She is a very talented little girl!

She's very talented!

She is amazing! I have theater kids who sing/dance/act. Your daughter has a good belt for such a young age. She will be getting all the leads in the musicals. Does she do any professional work yet or just community theater?

Thank you guys so much! You are so kind! We are really proud of her. Don't know where she gets the stage "poise"- she has been totally comfortable on stage and trying to work the audience since she was a toddler. She has always seemed "at home" the minute she gets up there.

Drinkme, nice to hear from a fellow theatre Mom! She hasn't done either yet, but thanks for thinking that she could. She would go nuts if she auditioned for and made it into an adult community theatre production. She was a wild toddler but at age 2 if you put on any kind of old movie musical, she would sit still for the whole 2 or 3 hours and watch it and would start singing the songs around the house- so at age 3 we put her in a music based preschool that puts on these adorable full costume musical reviews with the kids a couple times a year. She loved it there and started doing solos in the shows. We are also lucky that we have a local community theatre in our town that has a great kids program. She loves that place. She is still in the "peewee" division though until the end of this school year. After that she can audition for the bigger kid stage plays. There are some really amazing kids there though, and it will be awhile before she gets a lead if ever. We will be happy if she just makes it into the chorus for the first one next year!
