Sorry I tried searching, but could not find the information.

We will be travelling with the DDP, last time we used it was 2014, but I see some changes have occurred.

The dessert swap at CS. I read you can substitute your dessert for a snack or side.
1st- is this for adult meals only, or an option for kids as well?
2nd- Are there really options? Some of my group would be happy to swap out the dessert for a snack we could later take to our room (we often did this anyhow, bringing the dessert back...and than leaving the parks with half a dozen random desserts). However I'm just not remembering any real options at some of the QS places that would work. Curious what others have found.
3rd--I am assuming this is only for CS options correct? At TS you have the option for the small salad or soup as opposed to dessert, but not a snack for the road.

Also because I remember arriving last time and feeling a little silly not knowing 100% what I get with a CS meal...many trips back and forth at the food court the first day trying to get everything we were allowed...and now I forget again

Kids meal. One drink, one meal, one side, one dessert?
Adults One drink, one meal, one side?

TIA

Most of the snacks at QS places are not wrapped.

For example at Flame Tree BBQ you could have onion rings in place of dessert. Or at Be Our Guest, get French onion soup instead of a cupcake. But in general the desserts probably travel easier than the hot sides.

2nd: It is actually stated in the Dining Plan brochure that you can trade a dessert and/or beverage for anything on the same menu that has the snack logo (purple DDP letters) nest to it.

3rd: At TS restaurants the substitution is a lot less clear. Some restaurants will allow you to sub something in place of dessert, others will not because it is up to each restaurant whether they want to offer a substitution. For those that do, it is for an item that they have designated in advance - it could be a small side salad or a cup of soup or a vegetable dish. It is generally not something on the menu.

4th: Adult is one standard non-alcoholic fountain drink, entree and dessert, but you can sub the dessert for a side (see 2nd above). Breakfast, however is just entree and beverage; there is no dessert component.

For QS meals, kid's get a kid's meal where they are available and that meal includes everything for them, including their drink. They do have some subs listed for kid's meals like cookie or fries.

For adults, you can swap your dessert or drink for anything that has the SNACK symbol next to it. You are correct, that there really aren't that many choices at most places, and many of them will not be transportable or able to be kept for eating later.

For TS, the substitution of something for the dessert is VERY hit or miss. This is NOT written into the brochure and every restaurant gets to decide what they will do , if anything. Since it is not written, it is not something you can count on. You can always ask, but be prepared for various answers.

It's important to remember that a QS credit is a QS credit. So a "kid" QS credit can be used to buy an "adult" QS meal. Which allows swapping.

Oh this is good to know, my two younger ones tend to waste a lot of food (one of the reasons a free DP comes in handy for us, not as much stress about uneaten meals). So I can purchase them one adult QS meal to share and save the other credit to use towards snacks or on the go meals for our 2 day drive home. That of course if I can convince them that sharing a meal is not the end of the world.

French Onion Soup in a ziplock...I'd love to see that one!
Lol yes, we actually had baggies our last trip as my kids were still young so I carried a bag with extra clothes in case of accidents. They did come in handy to store the uneaten meals and desserts when we had to.

Sounds like the swap plan will work mostly for our extra (if any) credits and trading at the resort food court for grab and go snacks or meals home.

Oh kids drinks. Only juice/milk/fountain right? They can't get the slushies or speciality drinks even in a regular cup?

Thanks for all the help. I hated holding up lines last time trying to figure all this out.

Following, because I've never used the DDP either and we will be going in November and got FD. So looking for any tips that could help!

So if we will have 2 adults and 1 child on the DDP we could go to a CS and order 3 adult meals and one of my daughter's "child credits" would be good for that adult meal? That is awesome if that's how it works because we will also have my 2 year old son with us so obviously he doesn't have credits but if we can just get an adult meal for my daughter then they can share and we won't have to buy his meal OOP.

drinks depend how they are designated. if they are designated as a snack they can get it. if it is not a snack credit it's not a drink on the DDP. it varies by location. Unfortunately the grownup versions are never snacks, lol

You can do that, however, it may still be way to much food. We usually split 2 meals with 3 adults and are full at most locations, we just add extra beverages to make sure we are drinking enough. Keep an eye on what other people are getting when you are in line, so you can see the amount of food and make your decision that way. Some locations certainly don't serve enough to share, others serve plenty in the meal.

This is what I am planning to do with my kids for our upcoming trip.
