A little cathartic vent...no DLR trip this year

I was planning on taking the family to DLR in November. It's been in the planning stage for over a year. I couldn't quite pull the trigger though because I felt really uneasy about it so I waited.

Well, now I know why I felt that way. Had a bunch of expenses hit that are going to wipe out any funds I had planned on using for the trip. In fact, we're going to have to go on an austerity program (a la Dave Ramsey) for the forseeable future.

So, as for the rest of you, enjoy your trips. I'll try to live vicariously through you.

Sorry to hear that Mike..watch the photo of the day thread that may or may not help.

Good luck,

Jack

I'm sorry to hear about your family's financial future :\ I've been there. This trip is LOOOONG deserved for us..unemployment..underemployment.. We're finally able to do it which makes it a bit more sweet I guess. Anyway, I'm so sorry and I know a piece of how you feel. I will eat a churro and drop a tiny piece on the curb for you (and then pick it up and throw it away LOL)

Ugh.....that is the pits. I am very sorry. I have no doubt you will get there one day soon, though. Wishing you all the best!

Know exactly how you feel! Kids are asking constantly about a summer DLR trip. But wife may get layed off from her work any day. Her company is in contract disputes with the state and working 1 month at a time while its tied up in courts. Been that way for 8 months now. Don't know if I should make 1 DLR trip for the kids before they get too old or pile as much $'s into savings for now!

I can relate. I have $700 in my savings account to use for a trip to Disneyland next summer. Well, our fridge that was only 7 years old went out Friday, and I am cooking out of 2 ice chests right now. Doesn't look good, prob need a new fridge. Scared to death to let go of that money, but I may have to. Just keep planning and hoping. Time goes so quickly that before you know it, you'll be going again. This economy is so tough for everyone right now. Will pray for you and your family.

We had to do the same last year. Also Dave Ramsey.

Ditto the other posters. you have a great attitude and that will surely pay off in the future.

on the frdge thing (check some papers or even cregs list, jsut sayiong ive got a 150 buck fridge and it lasted about 4 years. It can save money)

As to the op I am sorry for you and your fam and I will try to take some good pics and make the report quick when i get back for you and all those who cant do it.
(as some know its been 3 years for me and only because my dad wanted to go am i even getting this trip) *Hugs* good luck

Just want to echo the encouragement!! Just think how much better your trip will feel when it is paid for before you are there!!
Doing the right thing isn't always easy, but it is right!
There is far more good in that than in DLR! DLR is a close second but...lol

I feel your pain ... after the last 5 years with either a Disneyland or Disney World trip, this appears to be the Year Without A Disney. Sometimes life gets in the way :(

Kudos to you for being smart and not spending the money until you have it again. Visualize the great feeling you will have walking down Main Street when this tough time is over! :)

We had to do the same thing, we made it through. :) Just think how special it will be when you're able to go back, for us it was like the first time again, only we knew where everything was. lol Hang in there, you will have a great trip soon!

In 2007 we had booked a (Disney) cruise -- something I have always wanted to do; however, we ended up having to cancel due to finances. Doing the responsible thing was not fun, but my dad -- from who(m) I get my Disneymania -- told me, "Don't worry. Mickey doesn't get grey hair." It was his way of telling me that Mickey wasn't going anywhere and someday I'd get to go on my cruise. 6 years later, June 2013, I finally get to go on my cruise.

I hope you can go to Disney much sooner than that, and don't worry Mickey won't get grey hair. pixiedust:

Thanks for the encouragement. I especially look forward to Jack's annual photo essay of his trip. Always good pics!

Just wish Disney wasn't so darn expensive. Took the kids the first time in 1994 and the tickets were like $30 for a one-day pass. First time I went was in 1979 and the entrance (back in the A-E ticket days) was $16.

I really hope that all of you who get to go have a great time.

I know how you feel.We were supposed to go in Feb,but DH had a chance to go to Holland with his mom and dad( likely their last trip to their family homes).Airfare was $2200(just for him)and it ate two weeks of our holidays.
Life happens and our trip in feb will be wonderful.....but the extra year of waiting is hard.Thank goodness for this board. It is what helps with the waiting.
Cheers DisMike.....just keep swimming!

I agree. This year when we went to buy tickets I thought I was going to have to revive my mother :rotfl: I wonder if Disney's going to finally price themselves out of the competition. Oh who am I kidding..we'd just save longer :headache::lmao:

Thanks Mike, I do enjoy taking the photo's. Many years ago, I mean many, we found ourselves in a bout the same position so I took on two FT jobs and slept when I could, took about a year but we wound up debt free(except the house), we gave up everything but it work. I still work two jobs because it does allow us to do what we want to but it is alot of work.

Best of luck,

Jack
