Hi WISHers!!:goodvibes

A bit of a quandry for my FIL, wanted some opinions. We are currently training for my first (FIL's 4th) half in September. We are doing a 16 week program, all mileage based. Our long runs are on Sunday, and mileage has been increasing as of late. MIL is also training with us, but won't race. Last week we did 8 miles with hills and FIL had a lot of trouble with his knee and calf. Now my FIL is a powerhouse, 66 years young, can school me any day. For him to pull up and stop means he is REALLY hurting.

I talked to MIL last night about todays 9 mile run and we both agreed that he should not run it, but he insisted on doing "some" (which of course meant all) but we ran a totally flat route today.

I am trying to encourage him to think about bagging the Sept run in favor of resting up, healing and being able to train for WDW, since the time and $$$ for that is much greater. He is resistant to that, saying he won't have a problem. I am concerned that if he continues (oh and he plays tennis 5x week, teaches spinning 2x week) he won't be able to make it to WDW. The Sept race was only $40, and he can still get his goody bag. I think he feels he has to do it on account of me, and I have told him that I am a big girl, I will be fine running on my own.

Any help/advice/suggestions?? MIL agrees with me, but FIL can be stubborn as a mule. Thanks for any ideas!!

Sounds like a Dear Abby letter :)

OK, you said he teaches spinning class 2 times a week, plays tennis 5 times a week, is running his 4th half versus your first and as you say he "can school me". So, don't take this the wrong way but all you can do is let him know how you feel then let it go.

Seriously, he knows his body. You already told him you are fine racing on your own. Let it go and leave it at that. He will do what he wants either way, as you say he is stubborn.

Either way I hope you guys have a great time. Just feel blessed that you have a mom and dad that will run with you.

enjoy,
Duane
