I keep falling behind with writing in my journal. Maybe I'm loosing interest. Often, by the time I get back from working, I'm just too tired to write. Today, my shift doesn't start till 2:30. I don't have another day off until Thursday. I'm not going to give you a day by day playback. I don't really remember what happened on what day anymore. I've worked every day since Thursday. It's HOT! And the costumes we wear stick like celephane. Whenever I'm behind the consol at Aladdin (that's where the start buttons are) I've taken to pouring water on my head and down my shirt to cool off. The other day, I was at Aladdin almost the whole day and finally got treehouse for the last hour and a half.
At the treehouse, people can't seem to figure out where the entrance is when I stand in front If I stand behind the turnstile, they keep trying to park their strollers in the front where they're not supposed to. It drives me nuts! The most frequent question I tend to get is where is Pirates. The other day someone asked how to get to Adventureland! And another asked if this was Adventureland...I thought to myself, "you mean you can't tell?" The area music is easy to dance to so I like to do a little rumba while I'm standing there. hehe. The hardest part about this position is making sure food and drinks don't slip passed me. I had a guy be a smart alek when I told him he couldn't take a drink in.
My least favorite position at Aladdin is grouper- it's the one where you group people onto the carpets. I'm getting a little faster, but it can get so confusing sometimes. It's also a lot of talking. I was at grouper a bunch yesterday and am amazed I still have a voice.
The Tiki Room theatre position is easy. I just have to introduce the show and then I get to sit in a corner in a dark, cool room and just watch the show. I do get sick of the show after seeing it two or three times in a row- but hey, how many jobs at a themepark allow you to sit in air conditioning! When I introduce the show, sometimes I wake up Jose myself, and sometimes I ask the audience to help. I have to time it just right when I press the button so the parrot wakes up without much stalling. Once, I didn't press the button hard enough and Jose didn't wake up at first! How embarrassing...
Sometimes, I say "On the count of three, can everyone say wake up, Jose?" and much of the time, everyone yells "Wake up, Jose!" before I can start counting! So I just stand there and say "Ok...that works too.."
I'm definately much easier to spot than I was in Tomorrowland since the places I might be cover a smaller section of the park, and there's less positions I might be in. The DIS's Towncrier was able to find me twice. I didn't see his button or limegreen ribbons at first and was a little confused when he snapped a picture of me! lol. I also ran into CarolA briefly.
I did a 9 hr shift yesterday, That's a killer- especially being in the heat so much. My area is campaigning to be allowed to wear a cooler outfit (that's cool as in temperature wise). I'm glad I've started bringing sunglasses.
The last day I had off, I went to casting and filled out the paperwork to request being full time, though I have no idea how long that may take. Since it's considered a promotion to switch to full time, I am allowed to switch areas. I put down that my first choice would be character greeter and my second would be attractions at various locations. I hope I get to work somewhere else besides ATT (abrieviation for Aladdin, Tiki Room, Treehouse).
Chris invited me to a get together with his friends last night. About once a month, they get together at this guy's apartment and watch pay-per-view wresting. I can't stand wrestling, but I told Chris I'd come. Pretty much everyone there was a character performer or a character greeter. They were all pretty nice to me. Chris's best friend's girlfriend and I hit it off pretty well. It'd be fun to go on a double date with them.
I'll be moving into my apartment soon. I can't wait. As much as I like Dianna, I want to have a place to myself so badly. Her boyfriend is here all the time. I can't believe I've spent a month living in her living room. Dianna and I are both off on Thursday, so we're going shopping for apartment stuff- yay! I'm excited- mom is paying for apartment stuff plus I got almost $500 worth of gift money from friends and family in CA! Hm....should I get a video camera? a karaoke machine? a video game thingy like gameboy or playstation? My sister gave me a $15 giftcard to Walmart so I bought a Parent Trap dvd (the original version), but then I couldn't make up my mind so I ended up getting Pollyanna too. Those dvd sets are great!
The yummy food smells that waft through the air in adventureland are pure torchure! I see people with dole whips and citrus swirl walking by constantly.

Hopefully you can do more Tiki Birds work.

And, keep networking with all the other WDW staff. You never know when one of them could be in a position to recommend someone for something.
