Plan to fly family from the Garden State cross country to SoCal for two weeks, plan to see as much as we can but Disney Land will be a central part of our trip. *So with that backdrop, I have some questions as a west coast newbie. Please chime in, answer some or all my questions any help is greatly appreciated.*

I know there are not seasons (e.g. *value v. peak) at *Disney Land like at Disney World, but there must be times when attendance is lower. *If so, *what months are best.

*Want to make sure we see new Cars land, what month will it open?

Opinions on staying at one of the three Disney hotels. *Which do people like, and why? *

Are certain partner hotels just as good as a Disney hotel, if so, any recommendations.

Is a hotel by Disney too far to stay when we begin our tour of the Los Angeles/Hollywood area?
*

Carland doesn't open until next summer.. no date yet but probably june-ish

Unlike disney world, staying onsite isn't as big of a deal, a lot of the good neighbor hotel's are great. Knowing what your needs are for a room would help us help you.. Some of the good neighbor hotels are as close to the DLR gates then any resort hotel.

I can answer a few since I have been to LA a lot. Anaheim and DLR are about 45 minutes away, not accounting for rush hour traffic. If I were to spend a few days touring hollywood and surrounding area, I would stay a few days in that area and then change hotels, so I would not have to deal with the commute.

DLR gets just as busy with school vacations as WDW so would keep that in mind and book around those.

We love the Grand Californian hotel, partly because it's connected to an entrance to California Adventure. One year we got soaked riding the Grizzly Rapids and it was so convenient to go back to our room to change clothes. 8^)

When we're planning to do both Disneyland and Hollywood, we don't spend more than a day in the Los Angeles area so we don't change hotels. It's a bit of a drive -- just make sure you don't try to drive it during rush hour.

See "Choosing When To Visit DLR: Summary of High and Low Season and When Each Happens" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=36509602.

If you want to visit LA I would say get a hotel there and do not try and commute from Disney.
