A Holiday Fireworks Question...

For those that are in the parks now, or those that have been during the holidays in the past... this question is for you.

We are going the week after Thanksgiving and I am wondering... How much of Mainstreet will be filled with people during the Holiday Fireworks? Is it packed with people all the way back to the Christmas tree end of Mainstreet?

Also, are there better spots than others to try and see this show with young kids? And how much time would I need to get in a good postition for their sake?

We are here now. My daughter and I just watched the fireworks tonight. We showed up in main street 10 or 15 minutes before the fireworks started. The entire street was filled all the way back to the tree. But people were not packed in tightly at all. We probably could have stood pretty much anywhere we wanted. We were in the center of the street just a short ways back from the hub. Close, yet far enough back that the trees didn't block our view much.

When we were there last Tuesday, we got into position about a half an hour before the fireworks started. We were centered in front of the castle in the street between the Hub and the castle.

We were chit chatting before the fireworks started and getting the camera ready and didn't turn around until after the show was over.

It was shocking to see that there was a solid mass of humanity behind us all the way back to the Christmas Tree! Really surprised me!

There really aren't a lot of projections onto the castle, and one could still get a great view and arrive later, and be further back. Just assess the trees before settling in!

I think some people like watching back there because the crowds are smaller. But this is out first time seeing the fireworks at DL so I think my girls will want to see the castle this first time. They LOVE the castle.

Anyone have tips or spots that are good for kids to see?

Go out to mainstreet about 20 minutes before the show. The street will be completely full, but not so crammed that you can't move. But obviously if your children are little, everyone is standing so you will probably have to hold them when the show starts so that they aren't staring at butts. Please do not put them on your shoulders because then the people behind you cannot see and they will block everyone's pictures.

Main street was crazy crowded. Standing by IASW was much less crowded and nicer IMO.

We watched the Holiday show Fri, Nov 9, and Mon, Nov 12. We never waited more than 15 minutes. We just showed up, five of us with one or two of us in the double stroller (front-to-back, not side-by-side), and got in the spots people left open between each other on the Frontier side of the hub so we could see the left side of the castle unobstructed. Those trees in the very center of the hub block a lot of viewpoints if you're that close to the castle.
Just show up. I do not think it is worth making young kids sit in the cold at night after a day at the parks (even after an afternoon break) for more than 15 minutes for these fireworks. The good thing about the Holiday show is that because it does not have all the screen projections and other stuff like the awesome Halloween show we saw Oct 31, it really is "just" a (very big) traditional show, where you spend lots of time looking *up* into the sky. So there are lots of good views available, so no need to plant yourself for an hour for the "perfect" one.
I would also note that on Sat, Nov 10, high winds cancelled the show, so do see it as soon as you can, and don't wait, because you don't know if you'll have to try a second time if weather forces a cancellation. On Sun, Nov 11, we were in DCA during the show, and saw a goodly 75% of it from Paradise Pier. I bet the people on Mickey's Fun Wheel saw just about all of it.

There are some elements on the castle, but as others have said, not as much as in some shows. I got to the end of Main Street (across from the Penny Arcade) about 30 minutes before the show (Tuesday, I think) and there was no one else nearby at that point (folks were sitting on the curb, it not sitting/standing on the street). By the time the show started, the crowds had filled in, but there was still room to move about. The crowds were dense enough that small children wouldn't have been able to see anything if they weren't lifted or on shoulders.

We watched the fireworks from Main Street on Nov. 13th. It was packed, which is not so much fun if you are in a wheelchair, as is my daughter. We stood on the sidelines for 10 minutes afterwards to give the mass of humanity a chance to thin out before we attempted to leave.

The next night we watched it from the roof top pool at PPH with about a dozen others. Although we missed the fake snow, it was waaay better for us.

This is typical for the fireworks year around, except on the busiest days, then it can get packed in very tightly.

If you watch from IASW area, is there snow back there too?

I was able to get a seat at an area just behind the hub 15 minutes before fireworks on 11/16. The seat was not ideal, but it was a good place to sit. 5 minutes before the show we started working down Main Street toward the entrance. The fireworks started as we got to the Christmas tree. It was wide open to stand there, but your view is not ideal. That tree blocks a lot. If you move away from dead center you can't see the castle but can see the fireworks with no problem.

I just saw the show tonight from the hub. I got there probably 15 minutes before the show and had a pretty good view. I think that the week after Thanksgiving will have lighter crowds, and you won't have to wait too long for the fireworks.

It had rained off and on today, and I think that had a lot to do with the lighter crowds. I was expecting it to be a zoo today, and it was rather nice.
