A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/12) New Thread Begun on TR Board!

Very pretty bodice! I hope it comes in time. I haven't decided if I want to wear one of those.

Very cool website. I can't wait to show Ethan. Lots of inspiration there. I am debating on wearing a simple black skirt that I already have.

I am planning on making mine and Ethan's costume. I have the pattern already. I do want to make myself a white shirt.

Now I need to decide whether to make myself pants or wear the black skirt.
I am not sure if I want to wear a bodice.

Are you wearing a hat? Ron has a Capt. Jack Sparrow Hat to wear! I will probably buy Ethan a hat. He loves to wear them and they are so hard to make.

Then I need to have Ethan design or pick his out. The hardest thing to make would be one of the long coats that Ethan likes.

Hi Nancy!

I think I want to wear a hat, but I may just wear a head wrap... I want to get the costume together first and see what would look best!

I really admire your sewing ability... I wish I had learned how to sew!

I love that bodice Kathy! Can you believe you are going next month??

I agree with you about the kids going back to school and things returning to "normal". I am a routine girl...and as much as I enjoy the activity of summer...I crave the routine that the school year provides! The boys on the other hand.....not so much! ;)

Other than the initial chaos of the first week, I love the comfortable routine of the school year! Fall is extra busy now that Tricia is playing both soccer and field hockey, though! I better dust off my chauffeur's cap!!

Wow, you're going next month?! How time flies!

Great looking bodice, I hope it arrives in time. Congrats on scoring more costume pieces for the boys. I'm sure you'll be relieved to have all that finished!

I remember doing all that this time last year.........how I wish we were going again this year.

Costumes are fun... but expensive! I went ahead and ordered a different bodice from a different company just in case the first one doesn't make it in time... but I like the first one so much better!

Hopefully you will make it back to WDW for another MNSSHP sometime in the near future! :wizard:

Yay for next month!! :cool1:

Can't wait to see how the costumes turn out! You are putting so much effort into them - I'm sure they'll be fantastic!! :goodvibes

Thanks! I really need to start thinking about other things, though!
I'm glad I started early... its taking so long to get everyone's costume together... I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't have just made tee shirts instead!

:rotfl2: You sound like me. My DH has been working out of town and I thought it would be easy to diet with him gone, but NO! Instead if the kids want something, I get it too. :rolleyes1 Oh well, I'm to close to Disney now to worry about it. I'll get on it when we get back!! All I can think about is FREE DINING!!!!:lmao:

Enjoy it! I'm a bit miffed that we DVCers don't get to take advantage of it! Your food will taste twice as good, I'm sure, because its FREE!!

I know what you mean... I am looking all over for Halloween shirts for my DH and I. We are going to the party Sept 18th and I feel like I am waiting until the last minute. I might have to cave and go to one of those expensive "halloween" stores that are only open 2 months out of the year... I found a Pirate Kit at the dollar tree of all places. It included a hook, hat and eye patch all for $1.00. DS will also be a pirate this year...pirate:pirate:pirate:

Nice score at the Dollar Tree!

Two years ago, Billy absolutely refused to wear a costume for Halloween. :confused3 But I wanted him to have something to wear to school that day because of the costume parade. I took a long-sleeved orange tee shirt and used black fabric paint to make the triangle eyes and nose and the jagged smile of a jack-o-lantern. It was festive, but felt like a regular tee shirt to him, so he wore it happily.

Perhaps you could do something similar, but give it a Disney twist?!

Kathy,

I wish you best of luck with the costumes. It will be nice when you have that portion of your trip all settled.

Jordo

Hi Jordo! I was thinking about you yesterday when I was shopping at Target! :rotfl: I passed the travel-sizes aisle and thought, "Man, I really need to do my pre-trip shopping soon! Jorday would've been done by now!"

Hey Kathy-I love that bodice-if you wind up using that...I that Ed will find you hmmm...fetching...quite fetching in it...;)

You are going to the Halloween party NEXT MONTH...(you know I'm going to be thinking about that while we're giving out the candy...:confused3)

The diet thing (sigh) is hard but even if you cheat a little you're still moving in the right direction even two steps forward one back is still a step forward...:goodvibes

And your right about the weather the...the weather in the tri-state area (which for us is NJ, PA & DE or somepeople flip it and say NY has been glorious-excellent for taking those after dinner walks...)

I think i might make a weight loss ticker-it seems like it would make you more likely to stay on the straight and narrow...:rolleyes1

I can't wait to see the photos of all of you in costume...:goodvibes

Thanks! :flower3:

I think I'll take pix of the assembled costumes prior to the trip, but will save the pix of everyone wearing their costumes until the actual party day.

I know what you mean about trying to stay on "the straight and narrow"... if only I didn't love food so much! *sigh*

I love that bodice -I hope it makes it in time!

I do to! (But I've got a back-up just in case!)

How are you doing with your party-wear plans?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The boys' pirate shirts arrived! They fit! :cool1: Ed raised an eybrow because the sleeves are rather "billowy" but I pointed out the absence of ruffles and lace... so many of the men's pirate costumes have ruffled sleeves... so it could've been worse!! He's sucking it up for the sake of historical accuracy!! :rotfl:

Billy's striped pants... the "one size fits all"... are HUGE on him! They will have to be hemmed, but with the black sash around his waist, they should be fine. He most likely will not want to wear anything on his head... its a sensory thing... but that's okay.

I ordered a pirate lass hat for Tricia... it's trimmed with lace and little red bows, so I think she'll love it! Catie is going with the red and black striped bandana around her head... I think.

So... Tricia is completely set.

Billy is set except for boot covers to put over his shoes. Those will be easy to pick up now that Halloween merchandise is beginning to appear in all the stores.

Ed is all set except for his sash... he will wear red so he and Billy don't look too much alike. (Billy's wearing striped pants and Ed is wearing solid black pants.)

I've got my black harem pants and a black lacy blouse... I just need the bodice to pull it together. I will probably just wear black flats as boots or boot covers would spoil the look of the harem pants. Still not sure what I'm going to wear on my head... and I want to put my hair up, but Billy hates when I do that (makes Mommy look "different"), so I may just forego style to keep my special boy happy.

Eddie is up for the long weekend, so I may not be DISing too much... then we jump right into Back to School. I have not been able to keep up with everyone's reports regularly, but I hope to get back to more DIS-time in a couple of weeks.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!!!

Kathy

Looks like the costuming is falling into place. I remember the hassle from last year, ours was a surprise trip for the kids though so I was trying to pull it all together without them finding out and we went before Columbus Day so it was early in the month!

Just thinking about Billy's pants, if you don't want the hassle of hemming them you could always just cut them with a jagged edge to make them look ripped. Tricia's had sounds cute!

The first MNSSHP are starting, it will be fun to hear how they're going this year!

Best of luck with the back to school! We started 2wks ago so it's old hat for them now. ;)

Hurray for being almost all set on the costumes!!! I really can't wait to see pictures -- I know you all will be the best-looking pirates at the party! :thumbsup2

This had me laughing :lmao:, Kathy-I don't know if you ever watched Seinfeld-but there was an episode where through a series of events he wound up wearing a "puffy" shirt like a pirate-his had lace on it though and was over the top...I think those "billowing" shirts look kind of umm...what would be the male word for fetching...:rolleyes1

Wow all of costume planning makes me think I should start running through ideas in my head...even if we're not going till next year...:lmao:

the kids will look great too...David isn't really big on face makeup either...we did the Pirate's League this trip...and it was fun and he looked great-but I don't think he was particularly comfortable...he's not super sensory sensitive...and he was pretty good about it.but this just pushed his limits-I'm glad we have the photos-cause I don't see much face makeup in this future...Emily on the other hand...:rolleyes1

Hmmm. How about "Hunky??" :confused3

Hey, if its good enough for Fabio....

I thought for sure you would want the family to dress as your namesakes from Wonderland!! Cant' wait to read about your Pirate League experience!!

Jerry "What, what is that?"

Kramer "It's a puffy shirt, you agreed to wear it on the Today show"

Jerry "I can't wear that on TV"

Kramer "You'll look like a pirate"

Jerry "I don't wanna be a pirate" :lmao:

Seinfeld is my absolute favorite show :thumbsup2

Kathy - we are boring - Maddie is the only one going in costume - she's going to BBB that afternoon and wearing her Snow White dress - so that's what she'll have on for the party. I have to get her picture with Snow White and the Dwarves :thumbsup2 The rest of us will have Halloween shirts on.

You guys are gonna be some very awesome looking Pirates....can't wait to see the pictures!

and I agree w/ irish dancer below about Billy's pants, that sounds good.

We're starting to decide Halloween costumes around here too...

Michael is set on a Mad Scientist

Alsine still wants to be a WACC nurse

and Mae is start to getting wishy-washy w/ her previous decision so we'll see and I'm thinking of dressing Margaret up as either Jo-Jo or Aurora depending which outfit fits best.

Have a great weekend w/ Eddie and I hope school starts great for the kids

Hey Kathy...

Your Halloween costumes sound great! I think you are all going to look fantastic!!!!!! I can't wait to see pictures! Hope you have a nice weekend!

Hey Kathy, haven't talked to you in forever, it seems, so I came looking for you ;) Not sure if I can plow through 145 pages, but it sounds like you're working hard getting ready for the MNSSHP. Still haven't been able to convince DH to go ("I'm not paying $200 for something we've already paid for"...tickets to park...doesn't get excited about different characters, parades, or fireworks :sad2:). I did buy a new Halloween shirt yesterday, though...just in case  Maybe the girls will change his mind (Sarah has a way of being able to do that, sometimes ;))
BTW, did you get my PM reply to you? Also, I started my PTR this morning...you inspired me! Hope you'll come by and visit! The link's in my siggie (not sure how to put the title as the link, though ;))

Won't you be glad when you can check Halloween costumes off the "To Do" List?

Travel Aisle? Did someone say Travel Aisle?

OMG, jordanyosh!! that cracked me up pretty hard!!!! Thanks for the best thing I've see all day!

Kathy, I've opened your thread about a baziglion times to post this, but when I was at the World of Disney in DTD, I picked up this thingy for my lanyard http://www.laughingplacestore.com/Product-6858.asp. It was about 6 dollars, and has a water bottle holder. I also wonder if you could hang a social story from the clippie thingie.

She will make an absolutely adorable Snow White!

I understand that lots of guests opt for special shirts instead of full costumes, so I don't think you'll feel out of place. :goodvibes

Yes, as soon as school starts it seems that all kids' thoughts turn to Halloween!

A WACC nurse has got to be the most original costume idea I have ever heard of! And I can just picture Michael as a Mad Scientist!

Hey Kathy...

Oooh, Hooray! I'll be right over! :goodvibes

The party would be lots of fun, but not probably not worth causing friction with hubby. Pick your battles, that's what I say!!

That's EXACTLY the image that came into my mind!! :rotfl:

 What a great idea, Hedy!

I don't think Billy would tolerate a lanyard around his neck... its a sensory thing... but I wear one of these and keep my park pass in the plastic card holder. It would be a perfect place to stash a social story for quick access!!

I can't wait to read about your Universal trip! Hopefully, I will have more time to DIS on my days off now that school is starting!

Kathy

I'm all caught up and it sounds like you have made fabulous progress on the costume front! I know what you mean about things getting back to normal with school starting, I will be glad when we get into our routine here, it still feels a bit off!

We had 3 days of school and then the holiday weekend, complete with DS9's bday so I'm all confused right now :)

Usually we start after labor day so it's just plan weird right now. This week will hopefully feel normal.

I'll keep my fingers crossed on the bodice but am glad you figured out a back up plan.

We really are such creatures of habit, aren't we?

You keep your fingers crossed for my bodice and I'll keep mine crossed for your next countdown ticker!!

Kathy

I am so hopelessly behind. Will try and catch up. I know I have read part-I remember an issue with not gettting MNSSHP tickets on the dates you wanted and then getting them. The costumes sound like lots of fun. I used to work with autistic kids and have a place in my heart for them-special people. Can't wait to read along.

All caught up! Glad to hear about the costume progress! You are getting so close! Woo-hoo!!!!:banana:

Hi Mary! Yes, there's a lot more chatter on this year's PTR for some reason... I promise to post links once the actual TR posts get going!

It still irks me when I see that November 1st MNSSHP date :headache: It sure would be less crowded than the Oct. 31st party. Oh well, the kids are psyched about being in the MK on Halloween night, so I'll just deal...

All caught up! Glad to hear about the costume progress! You are getting so close! Woo-hoo!!!!:banana:

Thanks Sara!

Tricia loves her pirate lass hat (it arrived today), as did Ed's red sash. I looked over our itinerary today and I can't believe that I felt not the slightest urge to change anything. I must be getting too old for the game.... ;)
