I saw yesterday where A-ha ( Take On Me ) has officially retired. In all honesty, I thought they had been retired for like 15+ years. Other than "Take On Me", I couldn't name another song by them....

Anyway, I decided to do a wikipedia search, and I can no longer think of them as just another One Hit Wonder band...

Some A - ha facts:

Sold 36 MILLION albums.... :scared1:

Once headlined a concert of 198,000 people.

Also headlined a show in Norway for 120,000 people in 2005... the largest concert ever in Norway.

Who wouldda thunkit? :)

Not I! I thought they were history many years ago, interesting. Take On Me is about all I can come up with. So were they a one hit wonder here in the states?

Well, now they can come back for their "Comeback" tour. ;)

It is easy to forget that there is a big old world outside the US.

I thought about that too, but was really thinking "How could they sell 36 MILLION albums and hardly anybody in the US even know anything but one song"?

The rest of the world has very different musical tastes than the United States. I didn't know A-ha was still around (well, I guess not anymore, but), but it doesn't surprise me.

Take On Me is one of my all-time favorite songs, so as far as i'm concerned, they did their bit and have my permission to retire.:thumbsup2

That was such a cool video, too! I have to say, I think it's more surprising that they were still together than that they retired! I learned some pretty interesting things on the DIS today, including what a "tramp stamp" is. And I joined just to learn about Disney!:rotfl:

I used to love A-Ha. I had three of their albums. However, I had also assumed that they were retired by now. I did know that they carried on into 2000 but didn't really follow much after that 3rd album. I don't think they were ever given their full credit in N. America. Maybe they were just too European.

They played last year at the Tokyo game show for the new LIPS game, a karaoke game for Xbox 360.

AS for 80's bands, I saw ABC a couple years ago. Depeche Mode are still doing a world tour selling out 20,000 seat venues, so there are still some oldies around. :)
