I bought a small underclothes pouch for when we went to NYC, and kept mine tucked away in there. I didn't need it as we weren't stopped, and I didn't buy any booze, but it kept it safe and on my person without being a bother.

What is the situation with UK driving licences being used as ID? On my last trip I was refused alcohol (on some but not all occasions,) in DTD because they wanted to see my passport. I asked was a photocopy acceptable (my passport does not leave the safe!) and was told it wasn't.

My personal experience is that whether a picture driving licence is sufficient varies from establishment to establishment and server to server. Notwithstanding UK government advice (which I agree is a must in those states identified in BudgieMama's post), I don't take my passport with me in Florida because I've never been asked for it (possibly, I've just been lucky) and I'm worried about losing it.

May I ask is it true you still have to transport alcohol in the trunk and is there a specific place in the trunk you have to place it?
