Hi. Remember the ice cream stand on the pier at California Adventure that served ice cream cones with colorful swirls? It was a little portable type stand on the bridge heading to Screamin’. The flavor was swirled on the outside of the ice cream. They had great choices like orange, pineapple, and blueberry. The cones were filled so high you could make a meal off them. Now they only serve the soft serve ice cream cones with choice of chocolate and vanilla. We can get swirled chocolate and vanilla anywhere, but the flavored cones were a real Disney treat. What happened? What went wrong? A missing Disney treat is just so wrong!

Well, it used to be called "Catch a Flave" and it re-opened last fall sometime as "Paradise Pier Ice Cream Co". I thought I read somewhere that the machines used to make the old swirls were tempermental or something so they replaced them with regular ones. Maybe someone else knows the exact reason?

They do have floats now, though.

Sorry! :sad1:

I guess the Disney imaginers have been busy on the Little Mermaid and Star Tours, leaving them little time to create new non-tempermental catch a flave machines. I feel better now knowing why, but boy, were those cones good!

With some luck it could reappear in some of the revamped park. In the mean time if you happen to go into guests service I would ask where the place is with the flavored ice cream. When they say it's gone ask to fill out a comment form.

I think the machines were from Australia or something and the joke when they stopped working was that they were swirling Australian (thus wonky)! :lmao:

Honestly, I didn't like the swirled flavors at all, I much preferred the standard choc./van. mix. :) And I do like that they have floats now, Root Beer and Coke were what I saw on the menu. I thought it would be fun to try a Coke float with swirled ice cream. :) Of course I didn't want to waste the calories on plain old ice cream I could have anywhere so I didn't have any at all but the rest of the family did and they enjoyed them quite a bit!
