With the base having too much stress being placed on it by the size and movement of the Yeti, and not wanting to close the ride for an extended period of time to fix it. The imagineers have decided to go in a different direction.

X-S Tech has given them permission to bring back the likeness of "Skippy", as a replacement for the "Yeti" according to Chairman Clench. - I can't wait! :scared1:

What? What is skippy?

The little furry character from "Alien Encounter" pre-show, and (now) from the Stick's Great Escape" pre-show.

I love Skippy!!

But he's no Yeti! I'd be glad to see his merch on sale again, but I just can't see him (or some likeness of him for that matter) as the Yeti. Just shut the ride down and fix the poor thing! The real Disney fans will wait! :goodvibes

I rode in January and I could have sworn we saw the Yeti. However, I think he might have been static. It goes by pretty fast so I'm not sure. Did the breakdown occur very recently?

I rode in January and

1- I could have sworn we saw the Yeti. However, I think he might have been static.

2- It goes by pretty fast so I'm not sure.

3- Did the breakdown occur very recently?

1- Yes. The yeti has been visible nearly all the time. Just standing there.

2- That's one of the reasons that Disney has not fixed the yeti. Many guests just don't notice at that speed.

3- Yeti has not worked for years. (About 4 years broken, I'd say.)

It has been reported lately that the cave where the yeti resides is now 100 per cent dark, so the yeti is not visible at all.
Don't know if that's true, for sure, or for how long (or why) if it is the case.

Stay tuned.

yeti has been broken for 4 yrs? I thought it was moving the 2009 trip???

From what I have read, sometimes the Yeti does move but that is usually on busy days or when a special person might be there riding EE.

Most of the time he has the disco ball and a light so people can see him.

You should check out the thread a few days ago about Disco Yeti, catchy tune.

I think a lot of people see the Disco Yeti, and believe she is actually moving. But you'd have no doubt she was moving if she was...

Over on the podcast board there is another thread, with some information from inside (with the usual "grain of salt" disclaimers) that the problem is NOT with the base structure, but with the animatronic itself, due to operating it when it arrived and hadn't been lubricated beforehand like it was supposed to be. It caused a little damage, but they were able to continue using it until the damage became more severe.

It seems plausible, but then again, they supposedly can also remove the Yeti easily - and if they could, I would have thought they'd have fixed her by now...
