a good inexpensive booster seat?

It is time to buy a booster seat. DD is outgrowing her car seat. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but it needs to be cushy on the seat for those long drives.

If she is around 4 I'd go with the Graco turbo booster. It is a highback that the back removes when she gets older. It is also padded really nicely. If she is youbger and on the light side I'd get a Britax carseat. I know they are expensive but they are worth it and they hold a higher weight (65lbs).

We just purchased an Evenflo Big Kid Booster from Target ($49 + I had a $10 prescription gift card) for our 4 yo DD. We found it had better padding than the Graco Turbobuster (in the seat) and that when the back is extended up, the support doesn't end up in a funny place. It's also removeable so it can be used as a backless booster and goes up to 100lb.

Our DD tried both seats and as she likes to sit cross-legged, she said that the Evenflo was better than the Graco because she couldn't fit cross-legged in the Graco. The Evenflo arm rests raise up to get out of the way. And the best bit I think - it has battery-powered lights that focus on the seat so that she can read/color at night! Considering we're driving from NC to FL on Saturday, I expect those'll see some use!

We have 2 Graco's ~ that I just had to mention although not really inexpensive. DD3 has a Fairy full size one w/the removable back, & DD5 has the Disney princess booster bottom , Both are super comfy we drive all the time = Gramma & Pappa's 10hrs North, Disney 10 hrs. South, Lastly both are fairly light in color, But they clean up super easy, even chocolate milk!

DD will be 4 in September. She weighs between 30-35 pounds. SHe is 39-1/2" tall.

It could take her a long time to get that last 5-10 pounds. I recommend the Evenflo Generations, Express, or Bolero. All of these seats harness to 40 pounds but have higher top harness slots; many seats are outgrown by height before weight so these are a good alternative to the shorter seats.

They also make decent belt positioning boosters when the time comes, as they have open belt guides.

I agree. My ds (3) had been hovering between 30 & 31lbs for quite a while now. We bought the Evenflo Bolero, which is the "no frills" version of the Generations for MIL's car and to travel with. It's definitely not as plush as our Britax Blvd but it's a decent car seat. I bought it mainly because my ds is tall and the top harness slots are the same height as the Britax MA/BV seats, about 17". This seat turns into a decent booster because it has an adjustable headrest and open belt loops. It is usable as a bpb up to 100lbs and 57". It is nice and lightweight for carrying through the airport too.

I think the "Express" the pp mentioned has been discontinued (or at least I couldn't find it anywhere but Ebay online) however there are other models that are similar that are still available ie the Chase or Visions models. Those might be slightly better for travel as they are a bit less bulky than the Gen/Bolero combo's but they won't last as long as a booster since their height limits are shorter and the weight limit is also 80lbs as a bpb instead of 100.
