Hello and welcome
to my very first pre-trip report. I couldn't be any more excited for this trip or sharing my plans with all of you!
The basics:
Who (Hopefully you can all forgive the barrage of wedding pictures, they are the most recent, and by far best, pictures of my family that I have):
First there is me, Margaret (23).
I am a legal consultant. My husband and I honeymooned in Disney last November and had a phenomenal time (trip report possibly coming - but probably not)! I can't wait to go back.
Favorite Ride: Splash Mountain
Favorite Movie: Enchanted and Up
Favorite Character: Carl and Russell from Up
I'm also a major fan of Winnie the Pooh
and Eeyore
and that is one of my favorite rides! I can't wait to have breakfast with them more than once on this trip!!
Next is Chase (25), my wonderful husband.
He is an engineer.
Favorite Ride: Splash Mountain
Favorite Movie: Toy Story
Favorite Character: Mickey Mouse
Chase and I have two wonderful boys, Theodore and Hotchkiss.
Unfortunately Disney doesn't welcome cats, even if we keep them in their stroller
Plus, they spend most of the day sleeping
and I'm afraid Disney might be too much for them.
My parents and sister, Claire (15, will be 16 on the trip), are traveling with us for the second part of the week. Neither my dad nor my sister has ever been to Disney, so I have to guess what their favorite rides will be! When I write my trip report, and I do plan to this time, we'll have to see if my predictions were correct!
My dad, Bill, is convinced he's going to have a horrible time. He’s only coming because my mother wants him to, but he’s bracing himself for a horrible time. He gets really bad motion sickness and he thinks it won’t be able to ride anything without getting sick, but the commuter trains in our area are far faster and much bumpier than any ride in Disney and he can ride those without issue. As far as I know, the only ride he’s ever rode is wooden roller coaster at Six Flags New England. That ride did make him ill and I think he’s expecting Disney rides will all be like that. Hopefully an hour in Disney will show him he doesn’t need to worry. We won’t take him on anything that goes backwards (Expedition Everest) or any simulators. I’m hoping we won’t have issues with anything else!
He makes parts for steam trains, his company actually bid on a job to rebuild one of Disney's locomotives about 10 years back!
Favorite Ride (predicted): Test Track or Dinosaur
Favorite Movie (guess): Toy Story
Favorite Character: Donald Duck
My mother, Joan, has been to Disney a few times and she's excited about going again. She and I went together with my aunt, uncle, and cousins when I was 8. We stayed off property in a not so nice hotel and went in August. I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone here, but it was incredibly hot and there were daily thunderstorms. I don't think she had a very good time, so I’m hoping this trip will redeem things for her.
Favorite Ride: It's a Small World
Favorite Movie: Pocahontas
Favorite Character: Mulan
My sister, Claire, has never been to Disney but she's wanted to go her whole life. This trip is a 16th birthday present for her. She goes to a vocational high school where she is training to be an electrician along with normal high school studies. Her school lets her miss 10 days without any problems so we were able to plan our trip in November without any worry. Plus she will only miss three days. Hopefully she misses her academic classes instead of her shop classes. It will be easier for her to catchup on academics than it will be for her to catchup on whatever electrical stuff they are teaching her.
Favorite Ride (predicted): Expedition Everest
Favorite Movie: Finding Nemo
Favorite Character: Stitch
When:
Chase and I are traveling November 8-15. My parents and sister are joining us November 11-15. We will hit the tail end of F&W which my sister is super excited about. I’m a bit apprehensive about Epcot crowds but if it’s necessary we will stick my dad on a couch in one of the nearby hotel lobbies with a book about Walt Disney and trains and come back for him when we are full.
Where:
Chase and I decided to stay at the Grand Floridian; we stayed at the Contemporary on the Atrium Club Level for our honeymoon and we absolutely wanted to stay on the monorail again. We had originally booked at the Poly, but like many others we jumped ship because of the construction. My mother wanted to stay nearby which meant either the Grand or the Contemporary. Because of the orchestra which my dad will like, she picked the Grand Floridian too!
Why:
Chase and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary. We had our wedding reception at an aquarium and it was wonderful!!!
My dad and my sister have never been to Disney before and my sister has wanted to go her entire life-she's literally begged us constantly-so this trip will be a 16th birthday present for her. My dad is not a Disney fan and getting him to agree to the trip was a ton of work, but I'm positive with enough planning that by the end of the trip he will say "well, that wasn't so bad". Unfortunately Disney is making things quite difficult for me because the train won’t be running the entire time we are there, and they are no longer offering the drawing class at Hollywood Studios. I’m not sure how he will feel about Christmas music in November either, but he does love Christmas lights so maybe the Osborne lights will redeem things a bit.
This trip is a bit of a thank you gift for my parents.
They paid for all my schooling and they helped pay for our beautiful wedding and we couldn’t be more grateful. We are planning to cover most of their cost, excluding airfare and few QS meals, but they don’t know it quite yet. I’m worried they might put up a bit of a fuss, but if they do hopefully it won’t be till the end of the trip.
I don’t want to overwhelm you all too much, so I’ll leave the rest of my information about my plans for another day, but you’ve all been so helpful this far that I wanted to share them with you wonderful people. Thank you!!
