Sound crazy, no?
But in our little village of Anatevka,
you might say that each one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune
without breaking his neck.
it isn't easy.
you may ask, why do we stay up there if it's so dangerous?
we stay because --Anatevka is our home.
And how do we keep our balance?
THAT I can tell you in one word --

TRADITION!

and with that, the music swells, and the cast begins to sing "traditioin", and my all-time favorite Broadway musical begins.

yep, we scored tickets for "Fiddler". I am so excited., can you tell? bought the tickets today. we see the show April 15.

"Fiddler" was the very very first Broadway musical I ever saw. I was 12 years old, and I went to see it with my grandmother, may she rest in peace. Grandma actually grew up in a shtetl like Anatevka. but I already knew the music -- you couldn't go to a wedding or bar mitzvah in those days without hearing the songs from "Fiddler."

and now I get to take my children to see it.

can you tell I am excited?

Fiddler is such a great old show. Probably my favorite. The music is so addictive and Tevye, he's such a DAD.;)

This brings more than a tear to my eye ..... my late FIL passed away 8.5 years ago from cancer. He perfomed a lot of stock and regional theater - and twice played the role of Tevye.

He was so phenomenal in the role. At our wedding he sang "Sunrise, Sunset" during the ceremony. He was cremated in his Tevye costume.

Have a great time at the show, Briar Rose - and let us know all the details.:D

I love that show. My DH is a high school music teacher and they did this show a few years ago. The tallent at the school is amazing, it was hard to see it was a school show. They put their shows on at the local professional theatre as well which helps! But a few of the kids go on to work as professional singers etc.

I can feel your exitement....your post gave me chills! :)

My mother (an Irish-Catholic Bostonian ;) ) would play the soundtrack over and over and over when I was a child. I love that story and music.

Have a wonderful time.............

for some reason, I'm going to have "Tradition" stuck in my head all night :teeth:

we're seeing the show in about 2 hours. I've been listening to the original cast album today. I'm psyched.

We saw it on Broadway for our 5th Wedding Anniversary. It is my favorite. Thanks for the memories!

Who plays in it?

I never was a Fiddler fan - until I saw my son's 5th grade teacher and husband do it last summer, they were super.

Have a great time....and we want a report when you get home :)

Last night was my 5th grader's choir concert. It had a Broadway theme. Almost every song has dancers. Theh sang "If I Were I Rich Man." There were 5 boys dancers in slacks and vests and caps doing a line dance...one of the boys' names was Rasheem...hope his parents were open minded!

my report

and I got to do a mitzvah last night -- the cast was collecting for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. that's one of my favorite charities. for a $5 donation you can take home a candle that they used in the wedding scene.

Alfred Molina was wonderful as Tevye.

I love Alfred Molina, I just watched him in Chocolat the other day and marveled at his wonderful acting. Would have loved to have seen him as Tevye. Fiddler on the Roof has always been one my fave musicals as well -- my mother was very involved with community theatre and while she never had a part in Fiddler, many of our friends did. I have such fond, nostalgic memories of it. :)

Thanks for the report. :)

snoopy, if you get the chance to see this production -- the dream sequence is done like a Chagall painting. actors wearing masks of cows and roosters in the style of Chagall, characters floating in mid air... but then again, Chagall painted many fiddlers, didn't he?

YOU ARE SO LUCKY

This is one of my favorites. We always listened to the record as a kid, and My Mom and I went to see it at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta last summer. IT was soooooo great! I always cry though.

When I was first married and living in Alaska--I watched Fiddler On The Roof one afternoon--and the part where Havila (sp???) is waiting with her father to catch the train to Siberia and she has to say goodbye----I CRIED and CRIED. I felt like her in my frozen land away from my family. BOO HOO

Hodel is the one waiting for the train, to take her to Perchik in Siberia. the third daughter is Chava -- a nickname is Chavele -- is the one who marries the Russian.

Oh! This too is my favorite childhood production. I swear, I could see it over and over again and never tire of it. I would LOVE it to come to Boston or Providence. Does anyone know if it is coming soon? You are so lucky to have seen this!!!!! I saw it in Boston a few years ago, but our seats were just awful, way way up there. I swore, right then and there, I would never see another production if the seats weren't great. So I kept to that promise when I got Lion King tickets for September at the Opera House. :D
