We are considering booking the Contemporary for our trip this fall, but after reading as much as I can I still have a few questions:

1. In the Garden Wing, are there elevators? I have read several reviews where people said they had to "take 3 flights of stairs" to get to their room; We have 2 children, 1 will be in a stroller, so if there is no elevator we may have to reconsider.

2. Realistically, how far is the walk from the Garden Wing to the Tower for QS or to catch the Monorail? I have read varying reports-some say it's a hike, others say it is not far at all. We stayed at AKL last year and I had read many reviews ahead of time that said the bus stops were a long walk and the hill coming back to the resort from the bus stops was "brutal". When we went to the bus stops the first day, I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks so much for any opinions-this site had been invaluable in planning last year's trip and getting ready to plan this trip.

1) Yes there is an elevator in their Garden Wing building.

2) I would say it's no more then a 5 minute walk or less to the Tower, so that would depend on where your room would be located.

:welcome:

We stayed in a garden wing room a year ago for the first time and loved it:love:

There are elevators but we requested a first floor room so we would have a patio. Our room faced the pool and lake and we could sit outside at night and watch the ELP.

I did not think the walk to the main building was bad at all and I'm not the most energetic person on the planet:laughing:

We were there during a busy week (Thanksgiving 2010) and it was very quiet. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Thanks so much for the input.

tluvstink, did you find that staying on the first floor meant more "traffic" or hall noise going by your room? I know that there is never a guarantee that requests are granted, but I was thinking of requesting a 1st floor room.

We honestly didn't hear any noise. It was seriously one of the most peaceful places I've ever stayed at and that surprised me but in a good way:goodvibes

We stayed in the garden wing a cpl. of years ago. There is 1 elevator. It's very small and seems to move pretty slowly. I had asked for a 1st floor room as close to the Main bldg. as possible, however we got pretty much the opposite of that (first time staying there, and didn't think it'd be a big deal, so I never asked again once we got there.) I will say that for us, it did seem to take quite a while to get to the main bldg. ect. We had a stroller, so we'd have to walk down a few hallways, wait for the elevator go out the building, into the main building and wait for another elevator to get to the 4th floor -food/shops and get on another elevator if we needed to use the monorail. For us, it seemed like a "hike." There were a few nights that we would have liked to go browse through the shops and maybe pick up a snack, but we didn't because it felt so far away.

We had stayed at values before that, I kinda expected that the distance would basically be the same from the garden to the main bldg. as a value to the main bldg. (however we did always stay on the ground level at values.) For us the garden wing seemed a good amount longer. We stayed at BLT last year and it didn't seem nearly as long of a "hike" to the main bldg. as it did from the garden wing. -At BLT they have a good amount of more elevators and the elevators are larger and you walk across from BLT to the 4th floor in the Contemporary.

The rooms were nice though and we didn't have any noise issues at all. I'd stay there again, but I'd try really hard to get a ground level room as close to the main bldg. as possible. I'd offer to wait a few hrs. ect., whatever it would take to get that request met as much as possible.
