A few races and food, some theme parks and food, and a cruise...

Molly, I hope that you can enjoy a nice slow trip at Universal. We took everything slow at Disneyland. We had a great trip.

My mom is in Kaiser in San Francisco. We are going to see her tomorrow. They were going to do the surgery tomorrow but they are considering her for a less invasive surgery and I am all for that. We should find out by tomorrow afternoon whether they can do it or not.

I hope everything is going well..

We are having lots of hotel time as E continues to get well after this "cold" from Hades and while R sleeps as much as he needs. I'm kind of going stir crazy but if they get/stay healthy it will all be worth it.

I bought Minion sleep/lounge pants for myself so that's good. :)

After much stress I managed to get myself pre-registered for the disneyland Half over Labor Day. I have a plan to train better so hopefully it won't be as awful. Barring injury or actual pneumonia it would be hard for it to be worse, but never say never, eh?

Awesome about the Disneyland Half!!!

I hope you all continue to feel better so you can enjoy your cruise!!! Well, and hopefully some of the extended vacation surrounding it, but at least one whole chunk of your vacation should be illness-free!!!

And, because I keep forgetting to post these...

Proof that we met, and proof that at one point on this vacation some of us were in good health...

(photos removed)

(Normally DD isn't so squinty. She needs a cool set of shades like E. But then she would lose them, so maybe not.)

The subtitle for these photos is "This is just after Molly made everything go horribly wrong". :sad2::sad2::sad2:

;)

Well, everything is going. They finally scheduled her surgery. She is having surgery on Monday.

I hope that E starts feeling better soon. The extra sleep is good for R.

Good for you! I bet their cute!

How fun! I considered asking Scotty if he wanted to do it but with everything that is going on he hasn't been running much. Actually since the fire he hasn't been running much.

Cute pix nancy! Alternate title: just after Molly misinterpreted the words of a child she barely knew and changed everything in a highly dingbat-ish fashion. Also known as two adults and one child do NOT fit in one aladdin seat. :)

Glad they have your mom scheduled Michele. How is she doing?

:)

I'm sorry you didn't get to ride with us, though. It was just a confusing, crazy day amid a confusing, crazy vacation. But good times were had!! I do think S and E got along quite well. N would have probably been more friendly if he hadn't been sick. Who knew.

Molly,

She is in good spirits. I know she is a little afraid and we are going to go spend a good part of Sunday with her. I got three of the photopass pictures printed and I am framing them for her. That way she has them for her room. She has a good surgeon and that pleases me. I am just glad that I fought to get her transferred to Kaiser. The other hospital was treating for something different. Scary stuff!

Molly, I am so sorry to hear you were/are sick. I think the plague definitely swept through race weekend attendees. I have not ran since the half.. that is UNHEARD of for me. I NEVER have skipped running all together like I have. That race behind me... I too signed up for the DL half. That was a challenge indeed. Now it looks like there is no availability at VGC so we will be waitlisting :(

He said "aww" when I showed him the picture. Reminded him we have had more than illness and exhaustion!

Scary about the other hospital. Love the pictures idea!

Stinkin' plague.

We will have to meet for the DL half! I might go for the Anabella.

Eta: we met Evanna Lynch today. That's Luna Lovegood for the non Harry Potter types out there. She was SO sweet and little. Picture when we get home and I work out the photobucket issue.

I'm in the club lounge here at the resort and don't want to leave because there are two men chatting with THE loveliest voices and British accents EVER. I want to hear them for always.

Agreed on the plague!!! UGH! I hope you are feeling better. We are better...but not 100% yet.

We should meet sometime for sure! Maybe even before the half....since we live all of 30 to 60 minutes from each other. Anabella is where we are booked for the DL half! I am so excited. :cool1:

Awwww :lovestruc

Omg!! How cool!!! Was that random, or planned??

We knew she was there for the big Harry Potter celebration thing, but we had decided to NOT wait in line for any part of the festivities. We had booked before it was announced, and the kiddo still isn't any sort of fun when waiting in long LONG lines, and we're not huge fan-type-people, so we were just going about our business.

We had, however, watched the podcast thing through UniversalOrlando back at the room the day before, and they included Ms Lynch, Matthew Lewis (Neville, yummy yum, how attractive did he turn out to be?), and either James or Oliver (Weasley twins). So we knew what she looks like as a 20-something now.

The next day we were enjoying butterbeers behind the Three Broomsticks; I was looking towards the archway to enter/exit the area because there's an ATM themed like it's at Gringott's, and I needed to get cash. DS was looking around, and he started saying "it's her...her, it's her". DH picked up on it quicker, and saw that it was Ms Lynch walking with a TM and an older gentleman*. She was taking a couple pictures with some guests. We worked it out that DS did want to meet her, and DH asked if a picture could be taken as it looked like she was leaving. She was incredibly gracious (I think she was on her way to get food, honestly) and said of course. I stood next to her, she put her arm around my back and we told her that we enjoyed her character (should have said her performance as that character! but we were tongue-tied), she said thank you, we took a picture, and thanked her. And off she went.

A day or so later I was outside in the driveway to the Portofino (getting a cab or something) and I saw her and some TMs and the older gentleman again. She was leaving the hotel and getting into a large black van. So obviously she was staying at "our" hotel, which we felt was tremendously cool. :)

*we got the strong feeling that he was her grandfather or some other relative...which seems neat, to travel with someone who will really watch over you....

Definitely!

I FINALLY finally got my sense of taste and smell back. Finally! It is SO hard (and really very depressing) to eat for calories and texture. I admit I cried a teensy bit once or twice when I couldn't even smell or taste garlic... I was actually scared the sense would never come back.

On the up-side...in the first two weeks of our trip my lack of appetite caused me to lose what Robert estimates as about 10 lbs. Which would have been only 10 lbs above the lowest weight WW would allow me. My small pants were hanging on me when we picked him up at the airport. Once I could eat again, and in the last few days of the trip when taste really started to come back AND I felt like I could have some brewskies, the subsequent gain merely took me up to my starting point, and the last 2 days, I think, brought me up a bit more. Have already lost 2 pounds of water overnight from the flight.

That's a definite up-side to no appetite and then no sense of taste or smell.

But one ear still hurts a bit. Eamon is still SUPER-stuffy (it was gone and then it came back, so I wonder if he got something ELSE once he finally felt up to the kid's club on the cruise) and one ear hurts, and he's really emotional. There's a definitely thought of heading to a healthcare professional! Still not sure what they can do for us, but at a certain point you have to say "this has gone on too long, I at least have to SEE what's going on".

Robert got symptoms on day 4 of the cruise and he's already finished with it for the last 2 days. He is SUCH a stinker. And when I say symptoms, I mean that for each thing that lasted 4 days for us it lasted an hour or two for him. I'm so happy for him that he has such an immune system, and I'm happy I didn't really have to be a caregiver for him as I was for myself and for Eamon (still so exhausted), but it's truly just SO annoying. Especially when he complains. 2 hours of that symptom for you vs 2 weeks for us, dude. Suck it up. :3dglasses

For one of the first times ever....I'm glad to be HOME. Except I find that we still have holiday stuff out. And up. Guess we gotta get to that, eh?

I am glad you got your sense of taste and smell back. That was a major complaint around here too. Not for me... I always can eat. ;) But my kiddos were very hard to get to eat anything cause "nothing tasted like anything".

Your kids are very smart, to describe it like that.

This goes on forever. I still don't have my full voice, and E doesn't have his full hearing. Can't even tell you what a rotten combo that is.

E and I had long-awaited chiropractic appointments, which helped with a lot of E's pain, but that just made it more obvious that he was definitely having severe ear pain. Poor guy.

Got a last minute appointment for the kiddo up at the teaching clinic at Bastyr (the Naturopathic college, for those who don't know), where we've gone before. Thought I was going to have traffic issues because of the parade/rally but I'm not sure I've ever experienced a better traffic situation on the way to Seattle! :)

Anyway, end of story, horrid ear infection (his very very first). 2 natural remedies, 1 ear drop antibiotic, 1 ear drop for pain. Awesome. One dose of each and he had a full night's sleep. Which means I did, too. Oh thank goodness. First one in a month. Since he didn't continue to have pain (the pain drops have a dosing instruction of "every two hours if needed", so they fade fast) it *probably* means that his eardrum won't rupture (from what they were saying, it was a VERY real concern yesterday). So that's positive.

Poor kid.

Poor kid is right! I hope he feels better soon....and that his ear drum does not rupture!!!

He is doing SO well even with just, well now 2 doses. I am SO happy. I do think that a lot of it was the chiropractic visit (one of the biggest things it has been shown time and time again to do well is lower the rate of ear infections in children, and I personally think it's why he hadn't ever had one, because he's been under chiro care his whole life), and if I had felt that I had time I might have not gone forward with the antibiotics...but the Naturopath who said he really hates prescribing antibiotics looked really really nervous about how bulgy his eardrum was, and I believed the guy.

And of course I know that an eardrum rupturing isn't a horrible thing in the end (it never happened to me...I just had multiple ear infections and tubes...and I have hearing loss from all that)...it's just a rottenly PAINFUL thing.

Even while sleeping he looked better. Despite hating ear drops, when he got up he came out, lay down on his side on the couch next to me, and gritted his teeth, ready for the dose. Even he knows it's working. And he hasn't wanted another dose of the pain stuff! So this stuff is working FAST.

And the stinker grew an inch. Why his body chose to focus on growing when it should have been focusing on healing, I don't know.

I don't even know what I'm going to write for my trip report.
I was there
I was cold
I was sick
I jogged
I was sick
E was sick
hotel room walls are boring
we saw a jellyfish in daytona
barilla gluten-free pasta is decent and fell apart in inch-long pieces when my aunt cooked it
the people at universal are sweethearts
I love the Caribbean and want to visit every 6 months to keep just a touch of color on my skin and to see the sweet people....

There, done. ;)

OK since I have like a gazillion photos I'll have to do a bit more than that. I still have to decide if I want to open a new photobucket account (Robert needs one, doesn't he?) or if I want to pay for more storage on mine....

ETA: it's so good to hear Eamon laugh.

Robert's working from home because he has to take the car over to his brother's dealership (brother doesn't own it, he's a whatchamacallit who runs the mechanic shop) because something floopy happened with our car yesterday while up in Seattle. They are watching Top Gear (British car show) and E is giggling. So good.

While I like the recap... other than all the parts of you being sick...

If you write a TR, I will read it. :goodvibes

I am so glad to hear that E is getting better. Poor thing! And poor you. It is never easy when your kids are sick. No matter how old they get. How's this for your title? "I went to WDW and all I got was sick!"
