Hi recents cruisers
Is dcl now at full capacity ? My last cruise as jan 2020
not that I am a newbie this will be cruise number 22
but with covid a few things I’ve change so I have a few questions

What was the thing or things you use to do and miss that’s not back at least now

Heard of talking to guest service you can’t go now if for any reason you need to is that so ?

I won’t have a wifi plan ( am from Canada ) will I still be able to use the navigator online ?
I heard menus …acguvutues are now shown on the app but I won’t have a wifi plan
I am wondering if I’ll always have to be on the app ( I like when on vacation to not have my phone always open and kind of disconnect from electronics
But being all is on the app now don’t seems like I / we will be able to
Shows are still on ?
Movies in the theater ?

Thanks

You log on to frer ship's wifi to use the app. No need to use your own. You can go to guest services to talk to them whenever you want. Sometimes their response is to show you how to do something on the app lol. The navigator is available on your TV so if you're in the stateroom no need to use it for planning. We used our phones for everything and honestly we were still disconnected, the app is only used for vacation related things.

Yes, shows and movies are still on, shown more times so no need to crowd theaters.

No sailaway party, no pirate deck party, we had a Marvel Day at sea deck party, not sure why they can't bring back a pirate one? No silent disco

Thngs we missed: Hugging characters, food/drink in the theatres, tea cup booths in Enchanted Garden, our original itinerary (was supposed to be Eastern Caribbean and changed to Western Caribbean 2 days before sailing), maskless indoor photos, variety of evening entertainment options

New things we liked: New muster drill procedure, staggered dining times, magic shots, fireworks shown twice, lower passenger count

Is dcl now at full capacity ?
That is unknown what capacity they are willing to book. Currently demand is low and for at least the past couple of weeks they seem to be sailing maybe no more than about one-third of total capacity and often much less. How long it will remain that low is anyone's guess, but this is typically a slower time of year anyway.

You can keep your phone in the safe most of the time if you want. Just look st the daily schedule on your TV instead of the phone, and ask for a paper menu at dinner.

They have a special character greeting in the atrium instead of the deck sail away party. They have characters randomly appear around the ship rather than mert & greets where you stand in line to hug them & get their photo.

At dinner your party will definitely get a private table, which didn't used to be the case. Meals at the sit down restaurants & at the Castaway Cay buffet are as good as they always were. Offerings at the ship's Cabanas buffet are still limited, though.

Theatre shows and movies in the theatre are still going on, as are game shows & Bingo.

Castaway Cay is still great, except they took away the public area hammocks. Be sure to rent a bike on Castaway Cay.

I miss the variety of entertainers onboard. Not just main stage theatre shows but singers, musicians, comedians, magicians, tribute acts. Something for everyone. Every eve someone or something different. They’d do family shows and then adult only shows later on. People like the wonderful John Charles for example.
I miss club hosts. These folks were not just cruise staff but they could elevate any quiz or trivia to a whole different level. For me without them a quiz is just a quiz. Trivia just trivia. Bring back Jo!
A good cruise director can still do the best that they can to provide additional offerings, but they have to be pro-active and innovative, so it’s all a bit mixed right now I think.

You can visit Guest Services, you just have to book an appointment through the app. I did it while down at Guest Services and was able to book an appointment within 15 minutes.

That's the official line, but they don't always follow it. When I tried to make an appointment, they told me to just come down whenever and not worry about it. From talking to some other people, that seems to be pretty common.

Whoops. I booked an appointment, then got in line. I mean I was standing right there anyway and figured they wouldn't turn me away since I did have an appointment.

I sailed the Dream in September 2021.

I did feel like I needed my phone with me. And I really could have used a small wrist purse to carry room key, phone and reading glasses.

It‘s the future of the world. But actually not that obtrusive. We Luddites are being dragged into technology; easier to just go with it at a basic level.

Supposedly, a paper Navigator is still available at Guest Services. As much as I prefer them to the phone and TV screen, I never bothered getting one.

Probably the thing that bothered me most was no self-service soda - which has now returned to self-service.

I liked having late night movie show times in the Buena Vista Theater; I don’t remember their offering 11:15 pm show in the past.

I did miss Trivia one night due to “Venue Full;” they were using a small bar.

I have sailed DCL enough times that anything missing was not significant to affect my experience. I had a great peaceful trip with a Double Dip at CC, delicious food (better than my memory of past meals), an excellent Beauty and the Beast production, and movies in the theater.

Hope you have a great cruise.

Unfortunately, the paper navigators aren't available at guest services. :(

They told me the same thing the first time I asked about it - so after that I just walked up to Guest Services whenever I needed something that the app couldn't do (e.g., put gift cards on my account).

I missed the paper navigators and the pasta and carved beef at the embarkation buffet. And of course the sticky buns at Palo brunch.

I bought a small purse specifically for cruises and resorts for my son and I. Had to have something to put phone in so that he could tell us where he is. I got it off Amazon, it’s been good for places that allow small purses too but nothing big.

You don't use your data or wi-fi. You put it on airplane mode and then connect through the cruise ships internal wi-fi. You don't get charged.
