My mom and I both own contract at Saratoga Springs. She has a December use year and I have a February. We are trying to plan a big family trip with my brothers and their families in August 2009 and are trying to plan out our points so that we can see what we will need for that trip and what we will have available to use between now and then. Given that we are using two different contracts and also trying to plan two smaller trip between now and the big family trip we are really trying to work out different scenarios and come up with our best solution. In our converations, a few questions arouse and I know that this is always the place to have your questions answered, so here they are:

1. Can I transfer my 2008 points to my mom and then later on borrow from my 2009 points to use myself in the same use year?

2. If I were to borrow some of my 2009 points to use in 2008, can I then bank the remainer of my 2009 points once I am in the 2009 use year?

3. Would my mom be able to bank her own 2007 points and then also bank my 2008 points that I transfer to her? Would this have to be done in one step or could it be done seperately?

Thanks for all of the help everyone is always so eager to give. Planning for our next Disney vacation is the only thing that keeps us going when we are not in WDW!

I'm a to the point kind of guy.

Yes
Can be done separately.

Just remember that the Aug 09 reservation is in your 09 UY (which begins in Feb 09), so you can use any banked 08 points, current 09 points and borrowed 2010 points.

The August 09 reservation is in your Mom's 08 UY (which begins in Dec 08), so she can use any banked 07 points, current 08 points and borrowed 09 points.

Transferred points can be banked but not borrowed, so dont transfer your 2010 points to your Mom and don't have your Mom transfer her 09 points to you. When transferred, the points still have the same home resort and UY, but you may be able to bank them after the sttandard banking window. You only get 1 transfer (in or out) per UY. Transferred points can be confirmed by MS but are not viewable online in your DVC account.

You may only need to transfer enough points for a single night (say you have 20 points, but need 30 to book that night). Otherwise, you can book the nights you need from different accounts and link them together. I beleive if your name is added to your Mom's contract as an Associate, you can make all the reservations from both contracts.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

I have 2 siblings that own DVC and we are constantly trying to do what you and your Mom are trying to do with this ressie.

I contacted via email the dvc member satisfaction team about allowing more than 1 transfer per year if you are family. It was just a suggestion that will go nowhere.

But my thoughts were that with all of this grand gathering stuff, DVC might make it easier for extended family to use 1 family member's account as the pot to throw all of the points into (or something like that). Maybe you would have to list names of a member's account who are family, and with those few family members you could transfer in and out in one year. I wasn't thinking cart blanche with tranfers. But it would be nice if 2 of the families could transfer an equally divided amount of points into 1 family's account and the whole ressie could be made, instead of trying to come as close as possible with points for whole night ressies that are then linked up.

Well anyway, I was called the same day  by a member of this team who told me that unfortunately due to commercial renters, they must enforce the 1 transfer in/out per use year. She did tell me that she showed this suggestion to her team leader and that sometimes when these "ideas" come up again and again they actually come up with some solutions for that issue.

I can dream about it in the meantime. And the good thing is that with some very creative thinking beforehand in conjuction with banking, borrowing, and the 1 transfer per year we have pretty much been able to make every ressie we have needed. And it's always been worth the effort.:dance3:
