Hi everyone! I'm new here and I have some questions about the DVC.

1. How much are points through Disney for Animal Kingdom Villas? I know the normal cost is 104, but I have heard of some promotion for 8 dollars off?

2. Is it hard to get reservations for places other than your home resort? I don't really want SSR to be my home resort (higher point rates per night) but if it was, would I be able to get reservations elsewhere even just 7 months in advance?

3. If I bought points for AKV now, will I be able to use them somewhere else this summer before AKV opens?

:confused3

THANKS!

Welcome to the DIS...I see that you are a new poster. You have a lot of reading and researching to do about DVC but you have come to the right place!

Yes, the current price for AKV is $104 - $8 as long as you purchase a minimum of 160 points. The rumor is that this will end in June.

Is it hard to get reservations at places other than your home resort...yes and no. It completely depends on what size accommodations you are looking for and at what time of year and at which resort. You want a Standard View at BWV during F&W? Not unless you are an owner and booked at 11 months. However, I just booked a 1-BR at BWV at only 5 weeks out. There are high demand times and lower demand times. Also different resorts are in demand at different times. BWV and BCV are in more demand during Epcot's F&W Festival. VWL are really popular during Christmas. Lots to learn

SSR points are NOT necessarily higher per night than AKV. AKV has many point options...savannah view vs. pool view...standard room...concierge....in Jambo house vs. Kidana...etc. SSR has lower point rates than most other DVC resorts.

If you buy AKV points NOW, you should be able to use them at other resorts. Many DISers are reporting being able to book with their AKV points, but some are saying that they cannot. MS is not really up on the rules yet, but since so many have reported success, then I would say you would be able to get it taken care of.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

You cannot use AKV points to book a stay anywhere that begins prior to the date the portion of AKV you purchase is available for DVC reservations (the earliest that will be is September 1, 2007).

Those that report they were successful in using AKV points to book stays prior to September 1 at other DVC resorts were using Developer Points. When they bought AKV, they chose to get Developer Points instead of the $8 per point discount. Developer points expire on September 1, 2007 (the date most AKV points can be used to pay for a stay) and cannot be used to book a stay at the AKV.
