My DF and I are throwing around the idea of getting married on a weekeday before Memorial Day Weekend instead of that Sunday. I know that the minimum goes down, but do any of the costs go down (DJ, food, hair, makeup, etc.)?

We were also thinking this might be a good way to get everyone there before the crowds grow but we're not sure how many people would end up not coming because of work. Did any of you send out a poll before you set your date and signed your contract? If so could you please post an example for me? And for those of you that got married on weekdays, what was your experience with guest attendance?

As you all know it gets so easy to drive yourself crazy with all the choices and decisions. :confused3 So I figured who better to ask than all of you. TIA!

Let me tell you a secret. Memorial day is a monday, but the minimum is still only $10k!, fri, sat, n sun before are all $20k!!!

I assumed that Memorial Day would be at the $20k minimum too, but that's a great idea to have it on Monday. :goodvibes Does anyone know if everything will still cost the same for a weekday?

Yes, the costs would still be the same for food, dj, floral etc. Just your minimums are lower, so instead of having to buy $20k of stuff, you only have to buy $10k of stuff. Also I would check with DFTW about the holiday thing.. they might have a higher minimum on holidays.

We sent a postcard with our save the dates, I got the idea from someone else here on the dis - We found postcard paper at Staples (4 to a sheet) printed them, put our address on them, put stamps on them, and enclosed them with the Save the dates.

Disney Weddings work a little bit differently than most weddings. We need to start getting an idea of how many folks will be able to come so we can plan some special events. We will be sending traditional invitations closer to the wedding date. For now, please help us by returning this postcard no later than xxxxxx

Name:_____________________________________________

_____We plan on celebrating with you in Walt Disney World!
____Just for the wedding
____We might stay a few extra days and make a vacation of it!
_____We regret that at this time, we do not think we will be able to attend.

We had already done our room blocks - but if we hadn't we would have included a line like this:

We would prefer to stay at a:
___Value ($80/night)
___Moderate ($130/night)
___Deluxe ($180/night)
___Off Disney Property

(I just guessed at the prices, if you do this, you might want to look them up, or get them from your SM)

We didn't send a poll or anything. Due to timing and finances we decided to do it on a Thursday. Did we get resistance to it, yes because of the time people would have to take off of work. But the bottom line is, we had to do what was best for us. We ended up inviting 78 people or so and 50 still showed up. Everyone who was important to us did show. The rest, I wasn't really anticipating they would come.

heathrow42- did you enclose those with the save the dates that disney did for you? or did you send other save the dates? That example you posted really helps a lot and my DF loved the idea...thanks :goodvibes

I'm getting married the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, and here are the rates I was given for the weekend:
Friday May 25th - $15,000
Saturday May 26th - $25,000
Sunday May 27th - $20,000
Monday May 28th - $15,000

Our guests preferred that we do either the Friday or the Monday, because they would have to take less time off of work. So even though it might be busier, more of our family and friends will be able to come. HTH!

This is from the email from my sm

Monday, May 28 is the normal minimum expenditure of $10,000++ as compared to Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend which would be $20,000++.

I guess either sm messed up, not sure, but I got this in writing, and it can and probably may hold up if I wanted that day.

It is in the contract that Disney can change prices, etc up to 6 months before your wedding. Just keep that in mind.

I'm under contract for Friday with a $15,000 minimum, so I'm not sure what to say! I guess if you're interested in the weekend at all, Namsupak, you should definitely ask your WC for the minimums. Good luck deciding!

We are having our custom vr on May 27, 2007 and the minimum in our contract was only $15K (Sunday). We had been told, previously, that the minimum would be increased to $20K because of the Memorial Day Weekend, but when we got our contract it was for a minimum of $15K, so we were really happy about that :cool1:

Thanks for all the info everyone. I guess I'm just gonna have to hope that I end up with the best deal I can get. It sounds like it all depends on who makes up your contract ;) Guess we'll just have to see what happens

We had ours the Thursday before labor day...Labor day was a monday and would have been the same price but we had a lot of teachers in our group and around here school starts the day after labor day. It was great! We did try to poll people ahead of time but nobody even responded to real invitations much less 5 months ahead of time!!:)
