Looking to pick up a portable ice machine before our trip on 10/27. Just looking for suggestions, experiences, etc.

Next, exactly how much candy/goodies should we plan on bringing for HALLOWEEN? This is our first time and have no idea, lol, lol

Thanks a bunch :)

For an ice machine I have one of the little portable table top models which works pretty good. I picked mine up on sale at Target a few years ago for around $120 - $130 if I remember correctly.

Amazon has one listed for $139 right now.

For Halloween last year I had a 5 gallon bucket full of candy and still ran out. How much you hand out will depend on the Loop you are in. The Fiends GG was in a pretty popular loop last year. I also hear that FW is going to try to limit the number of off site people who come for the day this year so it may be less crowded - I'll beleive that when I see it. just buy candy you like in case you have some left over.

Will you be there as part of the GG this year? Even if your aren't still look for us and stop by often, it'll be a great time! Many of us will have our green Mickey signs out so you can find us.

We have an ice-maker and use it ALL the time. It has more than saved us its cost, plus it's just down right convenient. When we camp it sits outside right by the cooler, so we just dump the ice in it. Definitely a good investment for campers.:thumbsup2

Thanks gonzo for the info and link to the ice maker!!!

What is the GG? I was going to put out some green Mickey ears too. Which loop will you be in ....we will give you a holler :)

GG was a Grand Gathering. We had something like 45 Fort Fiend families at the Fort over Halloween last year. It was a blast!! CLKelley hosted the party at her site (thank you for your graciousness).

I'm here to tell you right now...there was a continuous wave of kids and adults trick-or-treating from about 6pm to about 8:30pm last year. I have never seen anything like it - and I've been at the Fort over Halloween each year since 2002. One other Fiend and I decided early Halloween day that we might need to supplement our supply of candy we each brought, so we went to Sam's and bought an additional 35lbs of candy. I already had about 5-7lbs with me. We figured between us we had 50lbs of candy. It was gone in less than an hour!!

We've opted not to go to the Fort this year over Halloween. We've seen the trick or treat trend getting more and more out of hand as the years pass. Because there were sooooooo many people trick or treating last year, I'm certain that word got out to the other resorts and to the general public that the digs are good at the Fort. Even if each cabin had their allowed 6 people per cabin and each site had their allowed 10 people per site, that still would not have added up to the amount of trick or treater's that were there last year. It was utter madness!!

The other thing that got out of hand were people going wild with their golf carts. I know of one little girl that was pinned under the golf cart when another cart (going the wrong way on a loop with no headlights) crashed into the cart the dad & little girl were in, causing it to flip. It was very sad.

I don't want to scare you, but rather, prepare you for what might occur. Because Halloween is on a Sunday this year, it might not be so bad. Last year it was on a Saturday.

I just hope Fort security closes off the parking lot to people who are actually staying at the Fort and verifies reservations for people who say they are coming in for the HDDR. On major holidays they need to step up the security and limit access to only those people who have a valid reason to be there.

Don't know thw loop[ yet but with the reservationms we have it will probably be in the 1600 - 1900 loops.
We'll keep an eye out for ya!

Thanks for the info Debbie. This year will be our first try at Halloween. I noticed the parking lot changes here. The posts no longer divide the lot in half as they are moved to the far east end of the lot. Now the only way to access parking is thru the front gate. Hope it will help.

Don't forget the pumpkin for carving. That is the main reason why I always had a reservation for Halloween. Never won, but I did try. And people go crazy with their creativity. So don't think just any carving will do.
