GG was a Grand Gathering. We had something like 45 Fort Fiend families at the Fort over Halloween last year. It was a blast!! CLKelley hosted the party at her site (thank you for your graciousness).
I'm here to tell you right now...there was a continuous wave of kids and adults trick-or-treating from about 6pm to about 8:30pm last year. I have never seen anything like it - and I've been at the Fort over Halloween each year since 2002. One other Fiend and I decided early Halloween day that we might need to supplement our supply of candy we each brought, so we went to Sam's and bought an additional 35lbs of candy. I already had about 5-7lbs with me. We figured between us we had 50lbs of candy. It was gone in less than an hour!!
We've opted not to go to the Fort this year over Halloween. We've seen the trick or treat trend getting more and more out of hand as the years pass. Because there were sooooooo many people trick or treating last year, I'm certain that word got out to the other resorts and to the general public that the digs are good at the Fort. Even if each cabin had their allowed 6 people per cabin and each site had their allowed 10 people per site, that still would not have added up to the amount of trick or treater's that were there last year. It was utter madness!!
The other thing that got out of hand were people going wild with their golf carts. I know of one little girl that was pinned under the golf cart when another cart (going the wrong way on a loop with no headlights) crashed into the cart the dad & little girl were in, causing it to flip. It was very sad.
I don't want to scare you, but rather, prepare you for what might occur. Because Halloween is on a Sunday this year, it might not be so bad. Last year it was on a Saturday.
I just hope Fort security closes off the parking lot to people who are actually staying at the Fort and verifies reservations for people who say they are coming in for the HDDR. On major holidays they need to step up the security and limit access to only those people who have a valid reason to be there.
