A few questions about DDP

When do you have to pay for the DDP and is there a cancellation policy? Also, is it different if you are a DVC member? Thank you

If you're staying at a DVC resort on DVC points then you pay for the Dining Plan at check-in. Any changes you wish to make need to be made several days before check-in.

So, I should request the DDP through member services a week before. I pay for it when I check in. What happens if I change my mind and cancel the DDP at check in? Do I pay a fee/fine? Do they charge my cc for the full amount? Thanks

I asked member services this a few weeks back as we are staying for 3 weeks and 2 will be at Disney, this is our first time to try the dining plan and didn't want to commit to the 2 weeks.
I was told you can add/cancel before 48hrs to arrival.

Be careful though: Member Services isn't open 24/7, and they're not open on Sunday at all, so 48 hours could end up being while they're closed, and you cannot cancel when they're closed.

We're OK as we change over on Sunday so we need to call by Friday, we'll probably do it Thur.

What happens if you do not cancel w/in the 48 hour period? Do they charge your credit card for the full amount? Thanks

Not sure to be honest, but im guessing they are going to charge you otherwise the 48hr rule wouldn't be there.

I agree with yourh thought process but I can't find it anywhere that they charge for cancellation.

I searched everywhere for info too, that's why I contacted them in the end.

We want to wait until we have been on it for a few days to decide about the second week, so the 48hr policy should work OK for us.
Why do you think you may want to cancel?

I would only cancel if I had to cancel the trip. That would be the only reason.

I'll have to call member services and see what the policy is. That's awesome that you will be in WDW for 2 weeks. I've never stayed that long. We've only done the DDP once. It was good. We definitely ate more than we would have if we did not have the DDP. It was fun experiencing some of the different restaurants. We used most of our snack credits for Mickey snacks that we took home. Hope you have an amazing vaca.

We usually visit for at least 2 or 3 weeks at a time as it's a long flight for us, we try to get out 2 or 3 times a year. We decided to spend the first week off site in a villa as Disney will be mega busy new years week I'm sure.

We usually eat off site and haven't really tried that many disney restaurants so thought we'd give it a go (a little disappointed in the no app and tip, but we'll see how it goes) if we like it we will most prob try it again later next year. We've got a total of 7 weeks at disney next year! (got to make good use of those annual passes)

Let me know what member services say.

To the best of my knowledge, the Dining Plan has to be purchased for every person on your reservation for every night of your stay. The only way you could 'cancel' it for the second week would be if you have two separate DVC reservations (even at the same property). If you have a single, fourteen night reservation, you either have to have the DDP for all fourteen nights, or not at all.

7 WEEKS:banana: Got to love that!! Have you made your ADRs yet? If not, do it soon. We made ours 6 months out, tried to make some changes recently but they are sold out. I will let you know what I find out about cancellation policy.

Totally off subject...where did you get the cake? It's fabulous!

Ok don't get me started on my wedding! LOL I'll be here all day. We got married at Disney last year, so it's a disney cake. You can't really see in the pictures but it is stamped with cindy's coach all the way around each layer. It was ssssooo yummy, there was a hefty price tag with it to! you wouldn't expect anything less of disney. LOL

Yes your right the DDP is a length of stay purchase but we have 2 reservations as we are staying a week each at AKV and VWL.

Tell me about it. We are staying concierge at AKV the 2nd week (another reason we may not do the DDP the second week) so Don at the AKL kindly did all my ressies for our 2 week disney part of our stay.
We are due to go end of April but only decided this last week as I found out Bon Jovi are playing in Tampa but will probably stay off site so won't really be bothered with ADR's.

Wow a true Disney fanatic-wedding and all. We didn't get addicted until after we were married but my DD is planning her Disney wedding-in about 10-15 years.:rotfl2:

In April, you may want to buy the DDE card (20% off certain Disney restaurants including alcohol). We are also going in April (3rd week). We'll probably buy the card and not the DDP. Haven't decided if it's worth it if the tip is not included.

Well, my DH called MS today. We asked about the cancellation policy. The cm stated that we would have to call on a specific date (which was the day before our check-in) to cancel. He asked her what would happen if we cancelled after that, she said we would still have to pay for it. What's kind of strange is that she didn't ask for a credit card. How could they charge us if they don't have a credit card?
