In June I started buying the starter sets & my resort pins. I rally had a great time And came hone with 14 pins. Do you guys when at WDW wear pins around your neck? I just can't bring myself to do that. Do you just buy starter sets & trade up? I'm going back in Aug & not sure if I should trade Anything or just buy more starter sets. I found 2 pins from the 101 series. I really like them. Any hints

Usually when I am down in Disney trading pins I carry them in my back-pack. Once I come across a pin startion or a CM with a interesting pin, I usually then wear my lanyard around my neck. Also you might wanna continue to buy pins for your starter set. When shopping make sure you buys pins that you would want to keep in your collection and not trade. Thats all I got for right now.

we just had some pins attached to the top of our fanny packs and traded those throughout the day. We didn't carry a whole lot maybe 7 pins. We started out with traders each morning and put really special pins inside the pack after trading. I didn't carry around things I didn't want to trade more than a day. Trade for what you like.

It took me awhile to get over being self conscious about the lanyard. But you would be surprised what an icebreaker it is. I talked to so many people traders & non-traders about pins, WDW and Disney in general.

When I get tired of wearing mine I will take a piece of felt and wrap the lanyard so the pins don't scratch and put it in my waist pack. That way is handy if I run into someone who is trading.

We started pin trading in November of 1999 , and started wearing lanyards then. We have worn them ever since in the parks or at DTD. We love pin trading and talking to others about pins. If you don't wear the pins, who know who you might miss? ( do put the pins and lanyards away in a bag or backpack when you go on a ride - yes, they still do have rides at Disney, pin traders!)
Yes, you might get a few strange looks, but hey - do you really care?
Overall, a pin lanyard is a good ice breaker and we have had neat conversations with folks we would never have talked with otherwise.
Do what you feel confortable with. Have fun!

I found the pins on my neck to be a pane. I have a vest, and I love it. At the Pin event there going to Minnie pin bags. I 'm going to get one.

A way to start trading is to sart with workers. The workers must trade anything on there lanyards for what ever you give them.

I agree with MainePinPal. I wore a lanyard for most of my stay in WDW back in May. It was a great conversation starter with both traders and non traders. It made my stay even more enjoyable and I can't wait for the big event later this week! Wear it and have a good time with it. You'll get to the point were you'll say "those folks don't know what they're missing!"

Enjoy!

My husband bought his first pins in 1999. Then on the second day he bought the lanyard. He does not like to trade. Finally I started to get involved and love it. We both wear a lanyard. His laynard is the ones we will not trade. The one I wear are the tradeables. This way we don't get confused if we want to trade a certain one or not.

I will agree with the people who said they have met interesting people thru this. We have talked with more people than we would have ever. Just wearing the lanyard people will start talking with you. It is really neat meeting all of these people. Don't feel awkard wearing it, alot of people do and no one will know you would like to trade pins if you don't let them know.

My lanyard has pins that I will trade for anything. I trade with 90% of the castmembers I stop and look at. I would feel rude just staring at their chest and then saying they don't have anything I want. I also don't want to have to tell a child that they can't have a pin so I just make the Lanyard kind of open season!

Wearing a lanyard helps to identify you as a potential trader. When I see a lanyard or vest full of pins, I will approach them and ask to see their pins and if they trade. I like to wear my vest with 75 to 100 trading pins on it. I always have people approaching me. Some wanting to trade and others just wanting to look. You meet alot of interesting people this way. I keep my pin bag in a locker just incase I need to grab a particular pin that a trader is looking for. When I want to go on rides, I will put my vest in the locker and pull out my lanyard.
Happy Pin Trading!
