A few "gratuity included" questions

Hi there -

I have a few questions about gratuity being included on the bill...

We're a party of 8 (4 adults, 4 children) and I've been making our PS's. Anytime I make a PS for 8 they tell me that gratuity is included on our bill. That's fine with me but I have a few questions...

1. One child is 2 so he'll be free at the buffets which will mean we're paying for 7 people - will they still do "grat. included"? Will they charge us the gratuity as if we're 8 paying people?

The CM taking the ps's all ask the age of children before they tell me gratuity will be included so they know we have a "freebie" with the 2 yr. old.

2. At sit down meals there may be times when a child or two won't be eating so again - we really wouldn't be paying for 8 meals...still "grat. included".

3. What % do they give for the gratuity? Can we change the amount if service was poor, or exceptional?

I believe they would include gratuity even if there are "freebie" diners included in the 8-count. There may be times when they don't but I would expect it anyways. It is usually a flat percentage - usually 15-20% of the total bill excluding tax. It won't matter in the end how many people are actually "paying diners". If your children are eating for free at the buffets, their portion of the bill is $0.00 and 15-20% of $0.00 is also $0.00.

On our last visit, we tooled around as a party of 10. We found that the "gratuity included" policy was not universally enforced ... we just checked our bill each time to make sure we didn't tip twice.

At no time, however, was said gratuity anything other than 15%. The only slippage in service we noted anywhere was b'fast at 1900 Park Faire. Otherwise, it was just fine.
